And from 1978 ... you know who... but it does require an explanation... This was done for me around the time that the X-Men just got back from fighting Alpha Flight in Calgary and before Jean, the Beast, etc. knew that the X-Men had survived. At the time this sketch was done, Scott thought that Jean and Hank were dead. Now, Chris Claremont provided the words to John's sketch, putting in what was at the time was a potential triangle teaser (in the real world time, we fans didn't know that Scott was about to have a little romantic interlude with Colleen Wing). I asked Chris if he would give me a little insider information, but he and John just smiled and said, "You'll have to buy the next 6 months of X-Men." Remember, in the 70's, there was no wide, regular use of the Internet for getting upcoming information, and there was only one X-Men title. Needless to say, I purchased the next 6 issues, plus the next 200 or so after that....
It may be a little hard to read, but Scott is thinking "Oh Jean, things used to be so simple, so straight forward. I loved you... but now?"
