What's funny about this is that the Founding Fathers were, almost to a man, intellectuals. And they should have more impact on "what makes an American an American" than football commercials, country and western music, or beer. But I agree that we have fallen a long way in 225 years (especially during the past five years).
Nothing wrong with beer, mind you, although what Americans drink domestically is actually sort of a light beer. If you want a real beer, try Guinness or a good teutonic brand like Paulaner or Warsteiner.
