Not what I asked for.
The first shot is Galen, not Galactus.
The second is the helmet without Galactus, not Galactus without the helmet.
I ask again:
Has Kirby ever drawn Galactus without the helmet? If so, please post the
shot.

Thanks for that link Gerry. I had never heard Kirby's voice before.

From THOR 169 - the closest we get to a post-transformation / pre-helmet look for Galactus.

Huh. Inner'estin'.
The figure in that drawing being observed by the Watcher may be encased
in some kind of armour or something, though. Hard to say from that
panel.
Doesn't really matter, though.
I shouldn't have got into the nitty-gritty of whether Kirby had ever drawn
him without the helmet or if he had ever intended him to be seen without
it.
What I had been trying to say before I got distracted with that has more to
do with the magic of the character than the mechanics of his
development.
As with so many other characters, I think Galactus looses some of what
makes him such a powerful, almost mystical figure in the Marvel universe
every time he is depicted without a helmet.
I like the thought that the helmet is just part of how our pathetic monkey
imaginations are trying to process the sight of his true inconceivable
appearance, and that the only true human feature we can give him other
than a general shape is a mouth. (And, yes, a nose, but that's not the
point.)
In fact, one of the beauties of Kirby's design is how all the elements of the
helmet draw the eye towards that mouth. And I've always appreciated
how JB makes sure to never draw it any other way than set and grim (and
how he makes sure to show that what we're perceiving as Galactus' eyes
are actually a feature of the helmet.
Galactus devours, but Kirby's design is so much more compelling and
sublime than just a giant, scary mouth. One of the best!

There was an issue of the Silver Surfer where he met with Eternity. To hold that conversation, he took on a more "universe-type" of form while Eternity when from being the universe and became the humanoid shape we know. I found that incredibly interesting and liked how it supported that Galactus can have a specific shape while still allowing for much more depending on who he is with.

Just a comment in reply to a post on the first page........
Someone says that the concept of seeing Gaslactus without his helmet "flies in the face of" what JB established in the way of everyone seeing him differently.
AM I wrong or is it pretty tough to "fly in the face of" something that is published two years later? Or am I wrong?

First, Galactus doesn't have "square eyes". I went back to Kirby's earliest versions of Galactus and discovered these elements -- some kind of fucusing devices? -- as part of his helmet, so that's how a I drew him. Later artist -- some barely worthy of the description -- drew him with "square eyes".As to what Kirby drew of the helmetless or armorless Galactus --- of course Jack drew him looking human. Jack was human, so that what he saw. (Remember, the stories in the FF are merely reporting what actualy happened.)

By that logic, isn't any artist who draws a helmetless Galactus just drawing what they would see and reporting what actualy happened? Doesn't that make this entire topic moot?

The You tube clip is terrific. Kirby sounds just like I always thought he would.

In regards to the image of Uatu and the Pre-Galactus. Kirby is fantastic! Was there a better person to design the images of a forming comics universe?
Sorry...we can get back to the discussion at hand.
