Jason Fulton: There's a Ditko-designed Iron Man armor? Can someone post a picture please?
I don't know for sure if Ditko designed the armor or not, but he drew the issue with the first appearance of the pointy-faceplate red-and-gold armor in TALES OF SUSPENSE #48. Here's the splash page:

Issues prior to TALES OF SUSPENSE #50 are pretty pricey. I myself don't mind buying low grade copies, but even then, they're still fairly costly. If you're just looking for the stories, I'd recommend either the ESSENTIAL or MASTERWORKS versions.
Oh, and the website I grabbed that image from is only asking $22,400 for the original art. An incredibly rare piece considering the great shape it's in for it's vintage.

I prefer the original grey armor. I love how clunky it is. I also liked the scene in Avengers #1 where he's flying across country using a different flight system than the one he uses when he gets close.
A close second is the gold armor.
The armor that JB posted a sketch of is prety dang sweet too. I can't find it in the gallery, but it was a nice, thick suit of armor. I think he said it was an alternate design to the Silver Centurion design.

In an issue of Marvel Age they showed a bunch of possible armors for what was going to be Silver Centurion. There was a byrne armor there but I don' think it was that sketch.
The first cover I remember of any comic was the horned armor and the guardian suit. So I've always been fond of that one.
- horned
- classic
- Heroes return (chen)
The current armor (since Dec 2003 v3 #74) while mostly ugly. Has grown on me a bit.(Lowered Expectations and all that) One of the problems with it is the deign is so compicated very few artists can make it look good. And then only from a few poses. It will also be the basis for the film version.
Edit: Roger, is that page from heritage auctions?

I always loved the one from the JRJR era...not sure if he designed it, and it
really just looks like the classic look a bit redefined.

The version JR, Jr. drew was, as I recall, originally designed by Bob Layton for the conclusion of the Armor Wars. Not a bad look.
