Question for Gerry: Is framing deadly expensive in your part of the world?
I ask because I have a zillion commissions and pages that I'd like to get framed some day. Trouble is, by the time I've got the archival matting and the UV glass and all those good things, the cost of framing is as much as the cost of the art itself (if not more).
Just curious if expensive picture framing is a North American phenomenon or something farther reaching...?
(By the way, I like how you had those pieces framed. They look great).

I've had two done, both were just more than $300. Museum glass was about half the cost, I believe. The 11x17 with matte was about $2 less than the 20x30 without.
Gorgeous art again, Gerry.

Brian -- go to an art store and buy some matting material - the store probably has a selection of cutting tools, too - take it home and practice cutting it. It's pretty cheap. After you've got the cutting down - buy some generic frames, more matting board and frame your pages yourself. Cost per page would be $30 or less. SAVE the big dollars for the expensive commission pieces like Gerry has. My Byrne piece is going to cost me $150 (plus) to frame - but I spent A LOT more to get the piece from JB so it's worth it.

I had my four Curt Swan Superman pages all individually framed...UV glass, the whole deal. On two of those I got a 30% discount (I know somebody who knows somebody kinda thing). Still the total for those four was about $310. The four pieces of art together cost only a little bit more than that. After that I decided I would get a $25 portfolio to display my future purchases!

Thanks for the framing feedback, Gerry (and everyone else).
Patrick D: Thanks, too, for the suggestions. In truth, I have zero interest in framing my own comic art collection myself. A good suggestion, nonetheless.
The reason I asked that initial question is that a well known Italian comic art dealer on the Net mentioned once that in his area of the world, professional framing costs a pittance. He thought it was funny that North Americans would pay hundreds of dollars for the very same framing services and materials he gets for a song. The posts on this thread suggest inexpensive framing is the exception, not the rule.
