Very nice Gerry.  This is making me even more anxious for my own Rubinstein commission.  Everything about that one is nice: the details in the stairs, the cape, the close up of the face...great stuff.  Is that on standard 11x17 size paper?

Out of curiosity, did you contact Smitty or Terry? I ask
because I have had inquiries about doing
"recreations" of covers for which I did not do the
originals, and I have declined.

Do you do 'reinterpretations', though?  I hope so.

I'll do a similar scene, just not a one-to-one copy.

Example:

JB - regarding cover re-imaginings... Has any commissioner ever asked you to imagine a "new" cover for certain issue (rather than re-imagining the original cover)? I don't know if I'm entirely clear, but I mean is basically a "new" cover for a certain issue, that would fit as a cover for the issue, but which would reflect your current ideas of how to sell a specific issue.
Whether the issue was done by yourself or someone else, I understand it'd have to be something you're familiar with or that you'd at least be willing to read "reference" material for, but I was curious as to whether someone has asked you to do this? And if not, is it something you would consider doing?

Joe its on standard 11x17 board.

JB, i never contacted Smitty, cause when i get pages from him i prefer to get new scenes.I wanted an iconic image of the good Doctor and as that splash is my favourite from the run thats the one i went for, it also has different textures, like the spatter in the cloak that i knew Joe would excell at.

Also  its not a straight on copy, i asked for changes like the removal of the heads so that it couldnt be misrepresented as the original.

i didnt know that Terry did commissions?

Whenever I get around to visit Scotland again, I just have to come find you, Gerry, just to spend a wee while in awe. And not because of your smallish bank balance I hasten to add. ;)
