Another great place to find art and artist is the Comiart-l list, its been
around for like 8 years has some 2000 members. It includes artist like
Bob
Mcloud, Tim Townsend, Dick Ayers, Jim Lee and Scott Willimas to name
just a few. If you have searched in Comicartfans and haven't found the art
or artist you are looking for try the comicart-l.

ComicArt-L

Another good place is DragonberryComic Art Links Directory.

Dragonberry Comic Art Directory

They list website for collectors, dealers, auctions house, artists and more.
They are constantly updating the site and it has a good search engine.

Good Luck.

Be seeing you,
Brian

Thanks for all the links guys. I almost hate to ask this. Are there are sites or places to avoid? I think I speak for everyone when I say I'd rather not be burned.

I haven't had any real problems with comic art dealers. Be careful buying art
from J-P Voinot in France. I and a few others had problems dealing with him
a few years back. Took 3 years to get a byrne page I had purchased from
him.

3 years?? I was mortified recently that something I bought on eBay (non art related) took four months to make it to me. 3 years waiting on something would drive me insane. The big thing that I worry about is fakes. I would hate to find out something I bought wasn't the real deal. But as I have been dealing with the artists or representatives so far I am not concerned about what I own to this point.

There have only been a handful of fakes in the comic art collecting. Thugh
that usually happens with highend pieces. Though the fakes I do see is alot
of Peanuts drawings, Dr Suess also there are people who ink xeroxes of
famous artists like Neal Adams, Jim Lee and yes John Byrne (most seem to be
inked pieces over byrne xeroxes). Most times they say they inked a copy
other times they just state Byrne inked sketch and dont mention John never
toughed the image.

Honestly, the best commissions I have seem to have come from those primarily recognized as inkers.. Bob McLeod, Geof Isherwood, etc.

(6) Negotiate a price with the artist.

****

Just to ward off any potential aggravation on all sides, my prices are not negotiable.

And from what I've seen many artists are the same way. Generally there is a set price for things. A single figure starts at a certain price. Many charge based on pencil or inks. Backgrounds or no backgrounds alter the pricing. Recreations can cost more or sometimes less depending on who it is. Each artist is a new set of circumstances.

Another great one for you collection, Gerry.

As to JB's prices being non-negotiable... from some of those prices for other artists cited above, I think that JB's prices seems more than fair considering how much he puts into the commission pieces we've seen in here so far. At the moment still out of my own personal price range, but fair prices nontheless.

(I must admit that the price cited for a Silvestri piece horrified me... oodles of money for next to nothing. And I am a fan of his work, but would never pay anything close to that kind of money for so very little)
