Dave, those are some terrific commissions. Congrats.

Of all the "Byrne stories" you hear out there, nary a one relates to commission for hire.

 | •• Only a matter of time. By the middle of next year, at the latest, I should expect the 'Net will be rife with tales of how I screwed Gerry, but Michael Golden came to his rescue. |

Hmmmm. I find myself oddly conflicted over the notion of providing links to the websites of other artists who also do commissions. Sort of like Ford advertising Chevrolet. . .

 | Here's a Johnny Hazard Sunday by Frank Robbins that I got in the mail today.
And a detail in higher resolution.

 | I got that Sunday page (18 by 26 inches) for 300 dollars on eBay. A guy in Austria had 4 pages for sale, 200 dollar starting bid and I think the highest bid on any page was 325 dollars. Maybe 4 or 5 people bidding.  A 300 dollar bid was as much as I could afford (and a fraction of what I consider it to be worth) and I was frankly amazed that I got it. I've been a Frank Robbins fan for 25 years, and I've never been able to get many newspaper strip collections (thankfully it runs regularly as a back up in The Phantom over here.) (edited because I mistyped eBay)

Can anyone tell me why the original art for newspaper strips (a) is/was drawn so large and (b) is often so under-appreciated by art collectors?

I'd love to have a page from Robbins' run on The Invaders, myself.

There is an astonishing amount of snobbery in original art collectors. People often seem determined to appear "quirky" by collecting only a narrow range of subjects, styles, or even formats. My own collection runs the gamut, from comicbook pages (Silver Age mostly), to covers, to strips, to Sundays. Color, black and white. If I like it, I buy it,

 | My own Robbins piece is a page from INVADERS, inked my Frank Springer (an excellent pairing). Sure wouldn't mind adding one of those JOHNNY HAZARD Sundays, tho! |
