Paul, you having a nice Alan Davis page makes me want to come over there right now and pop you one right in the nose!  And while i am at it, i will give you a quick shot to the kidney for all the other great pieces you have.
My jealousy has manifested itself in empty threats of bodily harm!
Where did you get the Davis piece?  CAF?

The Skull isn't moving at superspeed (but he's moving far beyond mortal norms), but that's a heck of a mouthfull! JB was this written Marvel method?

How much time did you devote to finding that panel, scanning the page, cropping it, and posting it here?

Perhaps, instead of working so hard on missing my point (which Ronald seems to have gotten without any trouble), you should think about getting a life?

A bit late to the party, but that Paul Smith Avengers page is beautiful (and nicely colored, too, Gerry).

...show don't tell is a basic rule of film and comics writing!

***

Except on those rare instances where the dramatic effect can be made greater by not showing. Would Captain America's decapitation of Baron Blood have been more dramatic if it had been on camera? Would Phoenix torturing Colossus have been a stronger scene had we actually seen what she was doing to him? Would the death of Uncle Ben have been more powerful had it been shown in that first story? Would Susan Richards' revenge upon the PsychoMan have been more memorable if we'd seen what she did? Would JAWS have been a better movie if the shark had worked on cue, and Spielberg had gotten all the blood and gore he really wanted?

And, in a scene like this, from WCA, where the Comics Code would not, indeed, have allowed the scene to be shown as described -- isn't it better to play upon the reader's imagination? That which is seen is so often less dramatic than that which is not.

I find with original art I am much happier getting commissions or character sketches than original pages. Original pages just don't satisfy me. I'll prolly have to settle once I get to the point I can buy some Kirby but every now and then you see a Kirby sketch that is just breathtaking.

Greg, Alan Davis' art dealer just happens to be JB's art dealer Jim Warden. There are plenty of great pages available on his site. http://www.whatashock.com/doasales/ad.html

Hopefully the link will stop you from popping me in the nose.

Hmmph.  Paul, it seems you have avoided a pop in the nose, a kidney punch and a good ol' fashioned Indian burn.
Thanks!

Jason - It's horses for courses, I suppose. I find that getting a page of art that's actually been in a comic is the thing that gives me a 'buzz'. I'm more interested in checking out pages from comics than commission pieces.
