But writers have off days. That stuff happened all the time in the
silver age. Wonky writing stuff isn't unusual in funnybooks. Like the
characters telling us what's happening rather than showing us.

I don't think I've read the issue of the example you posted, but I get the impression that that panel was purposely written that way to keep a violent scene off-screen. How is this an example of bad writing?

I thought rule was "show do not tell" in visual arts.

Well, one can of course accomplish different effects by something like the panel above. Instead of getting a full page or more of fairly graphic violence (I'd say) the storyteller (it is JB isn't it) can get around that and move the narrative along (while still having the event). Is it effective in this case? I can't say without getting the rest of it (where is it from btw). And as for "showing not telling" (which I guess applies to film as well). The spoken or written word should not be seen as something necessarily evil. It's up to how it is done, and if it's effective storytelling in that specific case. IMHO

There's no "I guess" about it - show don't tell is a basic rule of film and comics writing!
If JB did it, I'm sure there was a good reason, though! No how about it on that one. You can put the Shazam in Billy Batson, but you can't take it to the bank, if you want to think of it that way. I love Avengers West Coast.

I know there's no "guessing", I was merely trying to humble about it. I just also happen to think that it shouldn't be forgotten that film isn't only visual, but audiovisual, in the same manner that comics have the full use of textual language. Thus while showing rather than telling might be a good rule of thumb if one is teaching writing for visual media 101, I think that constructive use of language (audio or textual) can be equally effective in the right places.
And the image above is, of course, apart from verbal storytelling a reaction shot which does show us quite a bit as well, methinks.
AWC rules! I bought the JB trade when it was released and just pray that Marvel will eventually be intelligent enough to release the rest of his run (and why not some of his Avengers while they're at it).

Bought them from a seller in the CAF Galleries. I had to jump on this when I saw it for sale. Two of my favorite cosmic characters and my first Art Adams piece.

That Thanos and Warlock are very nice. I still have my Marvel cards from way back in the day. I should look through them. Been awhile. Excellent purchase, Abraham.

O those Thanos and Warlock images are just beautiful, Abraham. My favourite cosmic characters too. And I'm not jealous, dammit, I'm not.
Neat JB page also, William. It just makes me wish that Marvel could get off their fannies and publish more JB TPBs. I want to read his She-Hulk (dammit).

Anyone else have any Curt Swan art on this forum besides
me? I remember one other person posting a Swan page they
had but is that it? I'd love to see what anyone else has.
