Any ideas on what I should say back to them?

That might be a tad excessive, David.

Perhaps, but it gets your point across.

Don't they have a point?  Isn't it kind of geeky to argue on a message board about whether or not it's disrespectful to call super heroes by nicknames?

Indeed.  My point was that you could tell 'em to go fuck themselves for calling you a geek.  Even if the shoe fits.  Wouldn't stop you from being a geek, but would give you some degree of vindication anyway.

Patrick,

I don't think it's geeky at all, but is very subjective.  Some people think going to a comic shop every week is geeky.  Do you?  Some people think hat hanging comic book artwork in your home or office is geeky.  Do you?  Some people think that collecting comic books in general is geeky.  Do you?  The point is that we all have different thresholds as to what we think is geeky.

I think all three of the examples you mentioned are geeky.  Geeky here meaning a person has submerged themselves into a hobby or subject to a deeper degree than the average person.

I think we all imagine ourselves at different places on the geek food-chain based on our level of involvement.  I think anyone who imagines a non-comic reader should look at people arguing about whether or not nick names are disrespectful to comic characters on a message board and not see it as geeky is missing the forest for the trees.

I'll have to ask Bones and Chewie what they think about this whole nickname thing.

Patrick,

If you think collecting comic books is geeky, why are you here?

Because I'm a geek.  Most people I know are geeks about something.  One of my areas of geekery just happesn to be comic books.
