Scott-

Are you a fan of Master of Kung Fu as well? I have always dug this piece by JB

I love the idea of great characters, whether it is Godzilla and Gamera, Batman and Captain America, or Iron Fist and Master of Kung Fu facing off.  Throw in Atlas' Hands of the Dragon, and you have  a dream comission (for me!).

I own the original cover art from the NEXT MEN Book One.

Questions for JB...

1) Do you remember what you used to color the cover?

2) Do you remember how long it took you to complete the color stage?

3) Why did you choose to color the piece yourself?

Also: I loved the way it turned out. It holds a special place in my collection.
I found a pic of the book cover on the web --
The image “http://i13.ebayimg.com/04/i/04/7d/10/61_1_b.JPG” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

I thought MOKF was ok, but never really got into his books.  I did love Mike Zeck's art, but I always wanted to see more Iron Fist.

And that is a real nice color Iron Fist vs MOKF piece by John.  I do not remember seeing that one.  Do you own it?  Best...

1) Do you remember what you used to color the
cover?

***Brace yourself -- that's pencil crayons!

2) Do you remember how long it took you to
complete the color stage?

***Several days.

3) Why did you choose to color the piece yourself?

***Seemed like a good idea at the time.

How'd you color those "fishnet" leggings with pencil crayons?!

The colors are pencil crayon. The blacks are ink.

I bought the piece years ago (found it on Ebay) -- I remember telling Jim Warden about the purchase. He could NOT believe you had colored it yourself! He kept saying, "You'd better ask John about that one. John doesn't color his own work!" All the more reason to own it in my opinion :)

Thanks for the answers, John.

Oh, there's color work by me floating around out there. My SPACE: 1999 covers, some of the DOOMSDAY+1 covers. Even a MANY GHOSTS OF DR. GRAVES (I think) cover. The SHE-HULK graphic novel has a color cover by me -- pencil crayon again, the others being Magic Marker. I mostly don't color because it's sssslllloooowwww, and I have never found a technique I really like. (I've looked at some Mobius coloring that I really like, but never sat down to actually figure out what he was doing.)

Well, that's today's new nugget of info that I've picked up from this forum - I never knew that Next Men cover was JB-colored.
