Excellent job all the way around.  Thanks for letting us see these wonderful commission pieces, JB.  Always a treat!  Thank you, George, for taking your time to make the QuickTime video and all the changes that have been asked of you.  Great work!

LOL...folk around here seem to have the money to spare...if it's an option, I wouldn't be surprised to see a request!

Matt,

you're welcome...

this video maybe is the only way I'll ever be able to stand over JBs shoulder and see him in action... I am thrilled... and it would seem, after reading my domain site stats, there have been 761 views or 4 Gigabytes of bandwidth on JUST the video, as of 1:37am this morning...

all hail Landru!

Would you still use magic markers if you did color something, JB?

Every time I see one o JB's commissions nowadays I wonder to myself how he isn't getting deluged with offers for a monthly book!!

JB ought to be the one doing the monthly Iron Fist book.

JB, if there was a regime change at Marvel would you want to take a stab at Iron Fist again?

Best,

Kyle

I'd love to -- but there would have to be more than a regime change. Given the way the old regime bolloxed up my return to the X-Men (XHY) with their "stealth marketing", my return to Iron Fist would probably be so badly promoted they'd even forget to publish the issues.

Well, I have to use something with the names of the colors written on top!

I've been looking at possibly getting the Pitt brush pens you use for inking in different colors.  They have a wide variety of hues available, according to the catalogs I've seen.

I haven't checked out the PITT pens in colors (obviously, I have no real need of them), but I have wondered how well they cover. The black "brush" nib tends to streak, which is fine for reproduction, and actually adds some nice texturing to a commission piece, but which would be frustrating if one was trying to lay down a solid color.

Hi All,

Sorry for not responding sooner to several questions on the board about my Iron Fist commissions, but let me see if I can answer them now.

The reason for these pieces are simple - Iron Fist was my favorite comic growing and John is THE Iron Fist artist.  I was a kid during the "Kung Fu" phase of the 70's.  I loved the "Kung Fu" TV show with David Carradine, the Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris movies, the Saturday afternoon "Kung Fu" theater, and most of all the Iron Fist comics.  These really struck a cord with me with their great stories by Chris and even better art by John!  I especially loved John's pages where Iron Fist would go through several action moves, all in one panel or splash!  This was the first I had seen this done, and still not sure if anyone else has done it sense.  Iron Fist fought both heroes and villians, so you never knew what was going to turn up in the next issue.  Plus, could you get any cooler than having a dragon brand on your chest and a "glowing" power punch of iron?!?

My original idea was to ask John to do his interpretations of 15 Iron Fist covers, issues #1-15.  I did not want strict cover recreations, but instead John's take on what he would have done.  Many remember John for X-Men and Fantastic Four, but I remember him for Iron Fist.  Sad to say, I had to back off of my original plans as I have some fairly expensive home rennovations hitting me in a few months.  Instead, I am going with a few key covers/issues for John to reinterpret, of which he has completed #15 and #12.  And once done, these will hang proudly framed on my walls!!!

To George, thank you very much for animating all of the phases of this incredible work by John!!!  It looks great, but still does not compare to being able to stand over John's shoulder and watch him at work in person!

And to Gerry, if you are planning a "visit" to my home, you should make arrangements with Wayne as he is planning one too!!!  Best...

- Scott
