"Byrne must've been rushed when he did this, he didn't even finish Susan Storm"

I like it, a nice sense of fun and wonder, and my god, they're actually smiling for the "camera"

It's odd to see JB pencilling and inking a "pre-Byrne" Reed.

Either one of those pictures would make a beautiful comission piece.

I remember picking this up when it came out and just pouring over it! Then I got Focus on John Byrne which is great too.
I still have them both on my book shelf along with a spanish edition sketchbook about John that I got off e-bay a year or so back. Of course I can't read that one because it's all in spanish but it has some great pencil scans in it and other art I haven't seen before.

I had never seen this before running across it in the checklist. I may have to track down a copy...

Mark: You can find them on Ebay almost all the time. It's where I brought mine...

Daniel - Thanks for that info. This may be the very thing to inspire my first foray into the wilds of e-bay.

I got mine off eBay too.  I paid less for my second signed copy than I did for my original unsigned version.  I sold the latter, which is temporaly the former (!?!).

I keep mine on my shelf between X-Men companion #2 (with JB interview) and the new(er) Modern Masters.  I guess I need to find that Focus on JB piece now.

She reminds me a little of Kitty too, but with a nicer set of sweeties.  Good job, JB!

I loved the Art of John Byrne as a kid.  I remember perusing the sketch book and enjoying it.  I got it signed at a con by JB himself, with Focus on JB signed as well.  I also have the X-men Companions.  They are all great to have.  I need to get the new Modern Masters, but it was sold out.

I also a signed Focus on George Perez.  I dig that too.  I have been thinking about getting similar books regarding Art Adams and Simonson.  Any recommendations?

Finally, regarding the hot girl in the thin T-Shirt . . . isn't that one of JB's great techniques drawing the little ripple or stretch in the T-Shirt between the two "sweeties"?

I love The Art of John Byrne ("or, Out of My Head").  Fun stuff all the way through, from the interview to the sketchbook to "Critical Error."  I'll always remember the thrill I got from seeing the JB-drawn Superman and Batman for the first time...
