Yikes, that outfit that the Shield wore is dreadful!

But the second Captain Britain costume is my all-time favourite patriotic costume

Yeah, that was a good one.  I was kind of disappointed when Davis changed it to the one with black diamonds, but that one's pretty cool as well.

I forgot about Captain Britain and Union Jack!  I always liked those too.

I loved the second Cap Britain costume and the way it referenced earlier military costumes with the cavalry type boots, hated the `easier` to draw one that had the black diamond on the shoulders.Alan Davis also did some neat variations from parallel earths.

I agree that Union Jack's got a great suit.  This version (used in the 2nd Knights of Pendragon series) was awful.  I'm happy to see him back in his traditional suit!

The original Simon & Kirby Fighting American had a great costume, though I
suspect it was a bear to draw.

Fighting American was a good one.

I second Minute Man from the Freedom Force game. Nice blending of the stars and stripes with the uniform of a Revolutionary era American soldier.

Yeah, plus there's a bit of "John Bull" in the design too, I think.

"Hauptmann Englande" was my favourite alternate Captain Britain.

Never heard of this Lionheart character before but rather like the design:

Here's an interesting amalgam:

Jumping in late on this thread with a comment about this guy:

This really brings to a head all those "debates" about what color costumes are, doesn't it? Storm's costume is white because the highlights are white. Spider-Man's costume is blue because the highlights are blue. Superman has blue hair. . .

So, the Red Guardian has a big star on his chest that only comicbook readers can see, because it's red on red? Or is it possible those blacks indicate a darker red? One that is almost black itself? Sorta like this:
