I've always liked Lancelot Strong, The Shield costume by Simon and Kirby. Heck, I like all of Kirby's flag character designs.

Red Guardian's costume always bugged me. I didnt understand where the white came from. It should be red and yellow like the Soviet flag. Though I guess that's a moot point now.

edit to add: The boots should probably be red and the leggings yellow based on the "shadowed" elements.

I love Captain America's costume as Jack Kirby did it and as it was done for 50 years. I hate the Ultimate Captain America design, no wings on the helmet and the lines and pouches Yuk, I really hate the WWII Ultimate one, the stupid army helmet makes me think of Reb Brown.

I always liked the Spirit of '76 from Marvel's version of the Crusaders.  I was also a big fan of the Americommando, Tex Thompson.

Quality/DC's Uncle Sam is also great, but with a pedigree like J.M. Flagg and Will Eisner, it's hard to see how you could go wrong.

My fav 's are

Union Jack, Captain America, Captain Britain's first outfit.
I like the character of Torch of LIberty. When i first saw it I thought oh wow JB drew what Bucky would look like as an adult. I imagined he didn't die in the rocket explosion and during the time while Cap was frozen Bucky grew up and continued on in Cap's memory.

What about the all time classic?

P.S. I actually own this, and a few more issues.  Scored them out of a dollar box a year or two ago.

I've always thought that this was a good play on Captain America's costume:

I didn't like the first Captain Britain costume. Too fussy:

But the second Captain Britain costume is my all-time favourite patriotic costume:

(the first Captain UK costume was a good variation on it)

I've always been the other way round on the Captain Britain costumes. I always thought the second one was too fussy (admitedly the wrist bands of the first could be simpler, say like Union Jacks)

Union Jack was pretty cool.  I really like Minute Man from the Freedom Force game, but that may be because I "was" Minute Man.

I think red and white strips, whilst nice on a flag, don't drape too well over the human body.

I've never really liked any of the Captain Britain costumes. They all make the mistake of carrying the flag motif just a little too far - same with most patriot heroes really. The Union Flag design on the torso of the second one above is inspired, but the repetiton on the face is just too much.
