"You get people here bad mouthing the Peter David site and they do the same regarding this forum."

Nobody here is bad-mouthing the PAD site.

Then these useless little grudge matches can end.

***

Some day, perhaps, you will labor for a year to create something, only to see someone else casually demolish it. And then a third person will refer to your ire as a "useless little grudge match".

Then you'll look back and realize what an ass you are.

Kevin: People over there are defending PAD's version, and people over here are defending JB's version, which is pretty much how it should be given that they are fan sites populated by fans.

As for what really happened - this is a Seven Samurai kind of thing, in my opinion. The actual events were 22 years ago. Everyone has their own version which they believe to be true, and the actual events lie somewhere in the middle.

****

The actual events were as I have reported them. This is not the first time I have been compelled to tell this story.

Nothing more complex there than walking into an office and picking up the artwork. Sales and Marketing did that all the time. Sometimes there were mad scrambles to retrieve artwork that was not supposed to get out. This time, that didn't happen.

As to the how and the why, if I have to chose between believing Peter David and believing Denny O'Neil, guess who wins?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

What I don't understand is: Why? I mean, Peter David was not working as a writer with any regularity at the time, so ingratiating himself to the fans doesn't really make sense. The action he's accused of taking would be job threatening in most circumstances, and I find it difficult to believe that anyone with children in their early thirties would jeopardize the stability of their job. And if we dismiss that, then what we are left with is something that was (as you suggest) simply standard practice. So why attribute negative intent behind the alleged act? The motivation simply seems absent. And it's rare that people act out in the manner suggested without some form of motivation.

And yet, it happened. Or Denny O'Neil is a liar.

Take your pick.

I'm not saying it didn't happen. Obviously the events transpired. That much at least is clearly agreed upon. What is under disagreement here is the "Why". So, what I'm pointing out is your own words: "Sales and Marketing did that all the time." If they did that "all the time", why assume negative intent? Did Denny O'Neil specifically say that it was an act designed to hurt you or the book?

Damn you, Google, for compelling me to look only at the headers of a search!
