Does anybody know who had the longest run on a comics book?! And I'm only interested in American comics. I know that Erik Larsen has done The Dragon for a long time and probably longer than Stan Lee and Jack Kirby did FF, but I'm not sure if that is the longest run?

Dave Sim I believe has the longest run with 300 issues on Cerebus.

Chris Claremont has written more X-Men comic books than any other individual. Dave Sim probably takes the cake for writer/artists, and I wouldn't be surprised if Larson ends The Savage Dragon at issue 301.

John Wagner has written most of Judge Dredd since 1977. So, not an unbroken run, but over 25 years on one character, and even when not doing Dredd, there was still something of his in 2000ad most of the time.

What issue number is Savage Dragon up to? I didn't even know they were still publishing that. Plus, I'm sure if he gets to 301, they'll put an asterisk next to it.

Well, there was one issue in his run that was drawn by Jim Lee (or was is Marc Silvestri?), now that I think about it. He'll probably have to make it to the 320's or so to make it a true record.

I'm not positive, but I think that Larsen did his own version of that same issue, though. Can't remember the details so many years later, but it was all part of some event where the creators all switched titles for one issue. Possibly Larsen didn't like something that Jim Lee had done? I can't recall.

And let us note that Dave Sim rigorously forced
himself to keep his monthly schedule. If he ever
missed a month, then two issues of Cerebus would
come out the next month. That dude was just
amazing.

How many issues did Groo get to? Probably not the longest comic book run, based on what has been said above, but certainly an impressive number of issues.
