She was based on Rona Barrett, the famous Gossip
Queen of that time.
(who apparently was also a guest on Match Game at
one time)

I figure you guys could probably knew that, but just in
case.....

Anyone who read DC's old 'Daily Planet' house ad feature in the '70s will remember that a 'gossip column' by Lola Barnett was a regular feature in the earliest editions, before Bob Rozakis became 'The Answer Man'. I'm not sure if Rozakis was Lola's 'ghost writer', but it wasn't long before the Barnett stuff and the trivia quizzes gave way to those immortal 'Q and A' sessions.

I liked having that expanded Superman/WGBS cast.  The Rhona Barrett character wasn't the most interesting, but Steve Lombard and Morgan Edge added something to the mix.

(Love the use of the Lombard character in the current All Star Superman run.)

I liked Morgan Edge and Steve Lombard, but got a little tired of Josh Coyle and his ulcer.   Weatherman Oscar Asherman was also interesting, the few times they used him(usually only if Superman fought some 'weather-based' foe, which meant once every few years!)

I like Lombard, but the All-Star version of the character is just weird.  I didn't even realise he was supposed to be Steve Lombard at first.

Thanks for that bit of cultural insight Hugh!
