I remember reading an interview with JB that in his first issue of Fantastic Four (#232) the editor changed a line where he had set Sue's age at 29. Sue is getting her hair cut when the hairdresser tells her this new style ". . .will make you look 20 years younger." Sue's original response was something like "I'm sure my husband will appreciate being married to a nine-year old." but was changed to ". . .being married to a child."

I never tought that Peter could be younger than his classmates. Interesting point, though.

I've thought about this quite a bit.
At the time of the rocket flight, I'd say it went something like this:
Reed: 35-ish (with prematurely grey temples)
Ben: early 30s
Sue: 25-ish
Johnny: 16
As for Peter Parker, it's been generally accepted that he was 15 at the time of the spider-bite. Thus, I'd say he was a year behind Johnny in school (Peter: Sophomore; Johnny: Junior).

Sorry, JB -- I missed it; thought it was part of the quoted text.

JB, what would you say is roughly the age gap between Reed and Sue?

Answered that in my previous post, JM

Ok, maybe I'm dense, but I'm lost... Where did you mention it?
Edit: I AM dense. Next time I'll read the WHOLE post.

It was at the top of his post, above the quoted text.
"Not long after I started reading the FF, someone
posed this question in the letter column. Stan replied that Reed and
Ben were in their late 30s, Sue was in her 20s, and Johnny had just
turned 16. So Sue is about 10 years younger than Reed (possibly more),
which is how I played them."

Kind of a Rob and Laura Petrie-esque relationship, then.
That works for me. Sue always reminded me of a blonde Laura Petrie and
Reed always came across as a more serious and focused Rob anyway.

Whoa! I had a "brain hiccup" there (which tends to happen if I haven't eaten in a while). I intended to say that Ben and Reed were contemporaries in their mid-to-late 30s (with Reed being slightly older, methinks). Whoops.
So, no, Stan wasn't wrong.

I never thought of Reed Richards as, say, a Junior and Ben Grimm as a Freshman. I always thought of them being the same "grade," even if some months apart in age. Doom too.

I didn't say they were necessarily in different "grades", I just see Reed as having been born before Ben, that's all.
