Did the Graphic Novels at the time have some kind of "Suggested for Mature Readers" label?

Not a word. I think (and I'm just guessing) at the time, they just assumed that the format and the high price ($6.95/7.95) would keep kids away. After all, these weren't comic books they were "Graphic Novels". Why would a kid be interested in them anyway.

Well, kids who were fans of She-Hulk, a brand new team of mutants, the Avengers, Spider-Man, etc...they all appeared in the Marvel original Graphic Novel format.

The situations in the She-Hulk page and the Dazzler GN are equally PG. But the squashed boob and the straddle panel seem like slightly more of an eyebrow raiser in the She-Hulk page. Maybe.

Too bad John Romita didn't draw the entire Dazzler GN. His redrawn panels are nice, but stick out like a sore thumb.
Why does the fat producer have receding hair in one sex scene and a full head of hair in the other? Does he wear a toupee to bed?
Shooter was a great writer in the 60's and 70's. What the hell happened?

It's interesting that Shooter ordered the redrawn page yet wouldn't take out the nipples as JB requested.
Those Dazzler pages read like a bad pulp story from the old days. ugh.

Wow, the dialogue from that Dazzler sequence is almost Lucas-Episode 3 bad.

I would do about anything to get my mitts on the She Hulk GN. Should I try Ebay? How much would it cost me these days anyway? My kid can wait to go to college next year...
*******
I picked up a copy from a dealer at HeroesCon for $4.

Jason, I suspect Shooter's writing skills were subpar because of the stress of being EiC at the time as well as scripting the Secret Wars mini-series. I remember that I was very fond of this early Valiant stuff and that came later. In any case, anyone can be "off."
I like Shooter's work very much and usually defend him, but I agree that I don't see what's objectionable about the She-Hulk page.

I defend Shooter as a writer and for his creations, but some of the things I've read about his latter days as EIC make me wonder if the pressure of the job starting driving him crazy.
Some of the stories I've read here and other places, his actions don't just seem petty or harsh, but just downright bizarre.

John Byrne: {quote]As to the "all ages" element -- Shooter was pushing for the GNs to be more "mature", but still be (mostly) Marvel Universe properties. In the She-Hulk GN I gave him as much as I felt comfortable with -- including the above, in which a reader sees no more than could be seen on evening TV of the time.[/quote]
Good old times, when if you wanted a more mature story you had to search for it NOT in the ongoing and FOR ALL AGES series.

I agree with Jay...I think this is an issue because of the squashed
boob and straddle panels. And personally, I would take it a bit
further...even though Dazzler is obviously a bit more degraded in her
page, the She-Hulk page is by far sexier, and that's probably the real
crime, despite how healthy that sexuality is compared to the Dazzler
page.
And on a bit of a tangent, this was my first issue of She-Hulk, at the tender age of 9...

I remember my mother just rolled her eyes at that purchase!
