From what I gathered, a little of both. One of the opening paragraphs
mentions how JMS would probably kill himself is he went online and read
his responses to the Sins Past storyline.
So Flash is or isn't in a coma now? I have given up on all the Spider-Man
books. So if he's in a coma, um, make him NOT in a coma. Sheesh...like
people never come out of comas in comic books.
Another spread in the Wizard (dodges more eggs) has mention of Loeb
and Scott Cambell doing a Spider-Man book, with some pretty cool
illustrations from Cambell. It's curious that he has an image of Gwen
standing next to Mary Jane.

Found something:
NRAMA: Joe, you've had recent experience with this set-up in The Other, that is, three writers, one story. Can we assume you found the experience workable and rewarding?
JMS: This one has gone better than The Other because in that case, once I'd worked out the basic storyline, everybody went their separate ways and there really wasn't much coordination in the writing process thereafter. I'd only find out what they were writing when the scripts came in...and sometimes even later.

Flash
SPOILER
woke up in Peter David's Spider-man and now works at Peter's school as a gym teacher. But he has a form of brain damage-basically, he thinks he never was friends with Peter. "Your kiddin'? Puny Parker works here? I haven' seen him since high school." When a jock bullied some kid, FLash took the side of the jock and Peter took the side of the nerd, so you have a return to the old dynamic there. Not sure for how long it will last though this was only touched on the last 2 or 3 issues.

This is what I really don't get. If you feel the supporting cast is a bad state, build it back up again! Fine, no Gwen or Harry. So come up with something else! If Stan and company had relied strictly on a "pre-existing" supporting cast (i.e., characters created in the first year or two), we never would have gotten Harry or Gwen in the first place. Peter's teaching gig or Mary Jane's acting gigs were perfect places to develop some fun new faces. Stop whining about what you can't use and make use of what you do have.
And the way JMS writes, a single Peter wouldn't be any more exciting than a married one.

But they'd be filled with the most exciting, talkiest dates in the history of the medium! Hell, isn't that what we buy superhero comics for in the first place? I know I felt like kicking Stan in the kiester with all that action going on when there was so much room for quite conversations around the dinner table or at a coffee house!

Not only that, but I thought Peter had great supporting cast potential
when Spectacular rebooted. All his kooky neighbors? I guess they just
forgot about them after the New Avengers?

JMS clearly knows how to write a good comicbook - I know because he said so in his 'I'm a master of the form' column at Newsarama.

I like his columns. Almost makes me wish I liked his actual work more.

(sigh)
I'd really like to see Karl Kesel and Tom Grummet on Spider-Man.

DAN SLOTT!!!! Dan Slott writing ASM would be a dream come true. Pair him up with a good artist (take your pick) and I'd be back in a heartbeat.

Dan Slott on Spider-Man and Fantastic Four. JMS can go off to other projects. Not going to happen any time soon. But if they did something like that then we'd be more certain that Marvel wants to put Spider-Man back on track.

Based on the Thing series, I'd love to see Slott on Fantastic Four. (Sure I'd likely be stuck with Ben and Alicia together again, but I'm willing to make the sacrifice.)
Alas, one of JMS' biggest fans seems to be Joe Q, so... :-(
