Very light week for me: Sgt. Rock: The Prophecy- This is some great stuff. I wish it were an ongoing series. I may have to pick up some Sgt. Rock from the back issues bin. Emperor Palpatine bust from Gentle Giant- I love the busts and statues these guys do.
Dropped Captain America today. Cap's my favorite character and I just don't like what's been going on with him lately.

Considering that I got the first 30 issues of New Mutants on eBay for $10.00 plus postage, I think you get these stories at a much better price by looking for back issues.

Agreed. There's just nothing about the package that suggests to me it's worth that kind of $$. Slick paper doesn't look good for books of that era, originally printed on newsprint with a far smaller color pallet than today's books. Like I said, I love the stories and will buy the inevitable ESSENTIALS book whenever it's published because it'll contain the first 25 - 30 issues for $16.99, but I'm passing on this overpriced collection. I'd love to see the Sienkiewicz run in B&W myself.

I considered getting this, because I did enjoy New Mutants back in the day, and missed most of these early ones.
But economics will probably make me take a pass.

- Justice #5 - My only DC of the week ??
- Captain America #17 - I agree with those who say this is the best CA run in ages
- Daredevil #84 - I like it better with BMB gone, not sure why Foggy Nelson had to go, sure he will be back someday somehow
- New Avengers #18 - This title has grown on me
- Spiderwoman #5 - Much better than I thought it would be
- Squadron Supreme #2
- Wolverine Origins #1 - Dillon is one of my favorite artists, worried about the series being a whole lot of nothing going on though
- Moon Knight Essential, I ordered this a couple weeks ago, hope it made it in this week

Captain America 17 Sgt Rock 4
On the TPB discussion, the "Superman of the 80's" came out today (I believe, it was displayed in a way that made it seem like it was just coming out). JB has at least two stories in it I saw.

IRON MAN 7 : Did I read it first, because I knew it was gonna be
quick ? Never really care about Iron-Man, didn't care about Ellis run (read
only the first issue anyway) and don't care at all about this 'new direction'
wich looks so old that the storyline still involves a Nick Fury supossedly
out of action in the MU right now. Very bad.
NEXTWAVE 4 As ok as last month. Beautifully drawn and quite fun.
And the super hero cop killers thing was deliciously over the top.
NEW AVENGERS 18 You gotta recgonise 3 things : - the book is
right on time each time 2 - the storyline are mostly 3 parts arc now 3 -
the action is in. So we cannot say that Bendis don't take some well tought
critics seriously. At the end, this issue particulary really feels like a good
ol Marvel one - well Silver Age not included of course :) And I liked the
Young Avengers appareance, wich is good sign of a well done Universe
continuity.
CAPTAIN AMERICA 17. Ok, the usual good, so I'll skip the
compliments for once, but I've gotta point out that the letter page is also
very interesting and constantly one of the best of the Marvel ones. (No
letters at Dc those days, when you think that 30 years ago it was 3 long
pages !)
MAN-BAT 1 Nearly BOOK OF THE WEEK. Superb cover, tight classic
Bruce Jones script, good light euro art, a really stylish 'book noir', so
what's up with the 'nearly' part ? Well some characters from the DC
universe coming at the end of the story that I dunno nothing about and
who are just not introduced. Normally at this point, I should say 'wait for
the trade' but since the covers (uncredited by the way) looks so nice...
WOLVERINE ORIGINS 1 So that would be BOOK OF THE WEEK ?
Surprise, considering how poor and slow moving was Wolverine last arc.
But it's a fine read, best intro line of the week : "I used to think that I
was the best there is. Turns out I'm the worst", best Dillon art ever
(more and more a mix of Gibbons & Quitely) but already this feeling that
this new ongoing will be mystery after mystery for years. Fast forward,
and I'll stick with it.
So BOOK OF THE WEEK ? Unread yet; the new JAIME HERNANDEZ book,
GHOST OF HOPPERS . Saved the best for the bed !

From my LCS this week:
BIRDS OF PREY #93 - Gail continues to do a great job on this series. NEW AVENGERS #18 - Probably my last issue. Civil War does not interest me at all. SQUADRON SUPREME #2 - Can't stand JMS on Spider-Man, but I like this.. go figure.
Coming by mail order in May:
JUSTICE #5 (OF 12) - I'm really enjoying this series. I'm interested to see where it goes. MANHUNTER #21 - Buy this book! RED SONJA CLAW DEVILS HANDS #2 (OF 4) - Only four issues it's ok. WITCHBLADE #97 - Not a book I ever bought, but I like what Marz is doing. CAPTAIN AMERICA #17 - Probably Marvel's best book. DAREDEVIL #84 - Trying it because of Brubaker. So far, so good. SPIDER-WOMAN ORIGIN #5 (OF 5) - Story's ok, don't care for the art though. RED SONJA #9 - A guilty pleasure. Good story, nice art.

I thumbed through Wolverine: Origins tonight, but put it back on the shelf. Is it just me, or does Steve Dillon make Wolverine-in-costume look like a tool?
