Somewhat back on topic, how many "comic book relationships" have ever turned out well?
*****

Well like I like it or well like they are still together and happy

The problem with teens and sex is not necessarily the lack of absitnence systems etc per se, because these things are shoved right down their throats in the media, church and on the street. Sex is handled in an immature manner in the good ol' USofA and given an almost puritanical awe and taboo all at the same time. If you look at nations where sex is handled in a more mature manner the problems that the US and other puritanical states experience are much less of an issue than here.

I come from a religion where sex is considered a sacred act but not a taboo. We hold that expressing ones sexuality is part of nature and to repress it invites all kinds of dis-orders and dis-ease. Does this mean "have sex"? No, it does not, it means to have a healthy approach to your body and sex. Masturbation for examples is not a taboo or something to laugh at or feel ashamed of. You have to release some of that hydraulic pressure sometime. Sex is handled in the "quality, not quantity" department and I have found since becoming this religion that my sex life has been more fulfilling and powerful. It is because of this more wholesome and realistic understanding of sex and what it is anmd respect for the opposite sex.

We don't have this attitude in America. Sex is baaad and we shouldn't do it. save it for marriage, save it for love etc. Sin Sin Sin (who was just a moon god anyway). Going to hell. Blah. Shut up.

 QUOTE:
But you are totally ignoring the fact that the abstinence program is not working.

What abstinence program?

It just sounds to me like young, stupid people, and kids, are getting mix signals on what's the good thing to do and what isn't.

now that's a problem with government right there the whole notion of keeping your pants on as an alternative to getting farked up is a "program".

You can't correct a flaw in your culture with a program!

---------------------------------- going further -------------------------------------------------

For the Love of Gandhi... once an idea becomes a program we start getting arguments on how the program should be run.   All the while missing the point.... if we don't have a clearer understanding of sex and its aftermaths then why are  we encouraging sexual viability?

Vision/Scarlet Witch, then he was killed/revealed to have no junk.

then she's crazy.

then not.

then he's normal again.

then... they reconcile?

then Wonder Man returns and Vision breaks it off.

Wasp makes Scarlet Witch goes nuts and kill Vision and Ant-Man II.

Giant Man/Wasp.

together. then marriage.  then he goes nuts. hits her once or twice.  they break up. he goes criminal.  he goes to jail.  he gets better. they divorce.

he's healthy. joins Avengers West as support.  he has father-son problems with Ultron.

gets together with Tigra.  they break up.

he goes nuts.  then suicidal.  then back. gets together with Firebird.
becomes "adventurer"

they break up.  he's normal.

becomes friends with Wasp as she joins Avengers West. "are they or aren't they?"  "Wasp just flew from the direction of Hank's bungalow!"

they goto seperate teams.

they both join Avengers east/only.  no real relationship.  'Hank goes crazy' revealed as long-range Kang plot

Hereos Return Avengers. they are together for Busiek run.

"Ultron Unlimited".  Hank-goes-crazy moment where he does his wife wrong in isolated but terrible incident is somewhat retroactively made into a pattern of unspeakably bad abuse.  yey.  they remain together.  I think.

Geoff Johns run.  oddly graphic scene where Ant-Man is climbing up wife's cleavage. marital sex or not?  I don't know.

Chuck Austen run.  they break up and retroatice marriage failure is made worse as Austen decides to pattern the comic book relationship off his life experiences and not on continuity or notions of forgiveness after indiscretion.  Jan sleeps with Hawkeye.

Jan makes Scarlet Witch go nuts by hanging around the pool in a bikini and randomly mentioning kids.  Witch kills Vision.

Wasp and Giant Man?  I don't know.

Spidey/Gwen

they evolve the relationship to a point that they do not want to write.  Marvel Bullpen kills Gwen.  Spidey nearly kills Green Goblin.  Green Goblin dies from being stupid.

Spidey/MJ

Marvel Bullpen tries to kill MJ but good taste brings her back to life.  Spidey has a quasi-healthy marriage.

Marriage may or may not make sense for Spidey but the writers rarely know what to do with wife character.

Spidey/Deb Whitman

They are together as long as she is nuts and needy.  When she grows up and decides to be healthy or whatever... she leaves him.  Ha ha!

Batman/Catwoman

Which versions?

Superman/Lori Lemaris

Superman decides not to pull a George Carlin.  Conventiently the Fish girl marries a fish man alien guy.

Superman/Lois.

The writers marry the two off realizing that "sexual tension" really wasn't working too much anymore, especially as Superman dating other chicks wasn't believeable in the scope of forty year traditions.

Smallville Clark Kent/Lana

Clark asks Lana to marry him to avoid her breaking up with him.  Then he turns back time and his father dies.  They break up.

Mister Fantastic has the healthiest relationship in comics!

Ever see ads for "One Tree Hill"?  Good lord, those kids look older than me.  Well, not really but still...

I was writing on another board today how I've never really felt the New Teen Titans ever felt like "Teens", not even during the initial Wolfman-Perez run.  It was sooo serious, and for god's sake, several of them even had their own apartments. Donna was dating ugly Terry Long, who had a daughter and while the book was not supposed to be "Square Pegs" in comic form, the "teen" aspect wasn't relatable.

"The New Mutants" on the other hand ... great, well-rounded depictions of extraordinary teens who were sometimes in ordinary situations.

Something mentioned in the book itself, actually.  In v1 #26, en route back to Tamaran, Vic & Wally discuss Dick & Kory's new relationship, during which, Vic states, "Despite the name of our little coffee klatch here, they're both adults."

Mr Fantastic and the Invisible Woman... the day they divorce or experience infidelity, I am leaving comics for good, for ever.  Temporary arguments are one thing, fundamental betrayals another.

About teenage abstinence programs... there are matters of fact that can be presented.  Abstinence guarantees (nearly) protection from pregnancy and certain diseases.  Various birth control methods that operate thusly protect from those factors at approximately x% rate...

Why does there need to be a "program" emphasizing either abstinence OR birth control?  The only reason this is an issue is because (both) sides wish to do indoctrination rather than simple education.

(Same way I feel about drug education.  There's plenty of horrific true stuff to teach kids about... it doesn't need hype or god-awful "Truth" advertising.)

Thus underlining something that really should never
have needed to be mentioned.
