This is from the comics?
*****

Its a bit of a paraphrase, but it is the jist of what was in The Power of Shazam.  I seem to remember that there was something about how the kids viewed their ideal selves or ideal hero they wanted to be.  (its been a while since i read it.) For Billy, he wanted to be like the dad he remembered (normal childhood idolization).  So CM ended up being a spitting image of his pop.

I have never understood why Billy turns into an adult but Mary and Freddie don't. +++

In Billy's situation of being an orphan on his own, being an adult would have helped him out, so he became an adult with powers. Freddy wanted to be able to walk like other kids his age, so, when he said his magic words, he no longer needed the crutch, and he got the powers. Mary was happy as she was, so she didn't change appearances and only got the powers.

No, it's something I worked out in my head about 20 years ago, after years of reading Golden Age Marvel Family comics as well as tons of other, non-comics literature while working on an English degree. I may be wrong, of course.

That's funny, Joe. The Power of Shazam! came out during a time I was not buying or reading comics. Now that I'm reading again, I had planned on trying to pick all those up, but I haven't started yet.

Yeah, I have heard from a lot of long time CM fans about that.  I was only familiar with the image of him growing up, the 70s TV show which I only vagely remember, and the cartoon in the 80s.  When the Power of Shazam came up in the 90s, it was my first time buying a CM comic.  So for me, it was a lot of fun.  I really enjoyed the ride and seeing how they tied in the different things that I had a vague recollection of from my early childhood.  So Tim, if you pick them up, I hope you get the enjoyment out of them that I did.

You know, it's funny.

It just occurred to me how all these changes are happening because the audience has gotten older, and all that hat.

It's funny, though.

For all the aging the reading audience has done, they all have remained just a bunch of big fucking babies haven't they?

Wanna see a hot Cassie? Go get a real woman fer christ sake. Wanna seek PP married, get yourself married already, you loser. Stop projecting this BS unto Comics.

I always wondered what type of real life loser requires either "Real Life", "Politics", "Sexual Maturity" in their Comic Books. What they don't have any "Real Life" in their real life? They don't have MSNBC, FOX News, CNN or the Washington Post for their politics?

I'm not even going to touch the sexual maturity one. What's up guys, haven't gotten laid properly lately? Never been into a mature, long term, intimate relationship with a full grown woman? It's not even an excuse. There's more porn in quality and quantity than there's ever been out there. Got get it, leave Comics alone.

I don't even know how to describe what type of pitty i feel for people who need Frank Cho's covers. My lord, are you physically that old, and mentally that much of a baby?

Sorry folks, but sometimes truth just has to be slapped around into peoples faces. Sorry, but you'll excuse me if i'm sick and tired of seeing my Comics, and those of millions of ex-Readers, turned into pseudo-porn and vicarious living for 40 year old virgins.

Now i know why they want all their Comics with full gloss pages.

Having enjoyed real porn, all I can say is I have yet to see anything resembling it in a Marvel or DC comic.  I might suggest going to your local adult book store and comparing pornography to your LCS.  If you still think Marvel and DC is putting out pseudo-porn, I suggest giving up comics and picking up the first season of the Electric Company that has recently been released on DVD so that you may watch it over and over again and never have to be afraid of being subjected to something that you may find titalating.

Look at your last sentence.

Yes, the titillating part.

See, you just confirmed what i was talking about:

I, as a grown adult, and all that's attached to it, do not consider anything i mentioned in Comics, "titillating". I consider it sad, sorry, pittiful, and right down annoying for a grown up, who, interestingly enough, happens live in a country and continent where full frontal nudity can be seen both on the street and in prime time television.

I don't want this content out of Comics because it's "titillating", i am going to have to profusely apologise but still, say that i find adult people who find such content "titillating", extremely sad, sorry. I want that content out of Comic Books, because it's annoying, juvenile, immature, and of completely no use to a full grown adult.

********

I hate to say this, but if YOU don't find it titilating, then how do you know anyone else does?  I don't like "real life" or "politics" in my comics but "sexual maturity" has been at least a part of them sense Superman and Lois Lane expressed an interest in each other.

Apperence wise I simply like to look at attracitve characters and I imagine it helps sell.  Baron Zemo from Marvel Comics face usually gets a pretty disgusted reaction whenever he shows up on panel, unmasked and scarred.

I like it when a marriage happens in comics for two reasons.  As I've said I like it when I can read about happy characters and two I hate reading about unsolvable problems.  As long as a character displays an interest in the opposite sex there is a problem.  THey can date indefinately but then you might as well marry them off, or you can simply not cover that facet of a character.

Something that struck me, when the reaction to DARK KNIGHT/YEAR ONE and MAN OF STEEL are compared, is that Batman fans -- at least the vocal ones -- knew far less about their character than Superman fans knew of theirs. They seemed not to be aware that...

•The bat motif did not enter Bruce's life until he was an adult, after he had completed his training

******

I'd always thought it helped inspire his training.

•Alfred was not the old family retainer, having joined the series after Dick became Robin. It was his father, Jarvis Pennyworth, who served the senior Waynes when Bruce was a boy.

*****

What's the current status on this

******

•Selena was not a hooker

******

I never knew she'd been turned into one.

•Gordon was a close contemporary of Bruce's father, not of Bruce

******

That only makes sense.  He's always been Comissioner Gordon to Batman.

She looks like a real little kid to me there.  I'd be as uncomfortable with her superheroing as the original idea of Robin as a nine or ten year old.  I guess I'm more comfortable with the idea of older teens in a position to get themselves killed since they can do it easier anyway.
