Sure. She thought she could "change him."

Just like every woman attracted to every bad boy I've ever known...

Sorry to be flip, but sweeping generalizations are my speciality.
Besides, the Sue-attraction-to-Namor thing has seemed natural
to me since the first time I read it -- it just felt right because I'd seen it so
many times before. Yes, even as a -- what, fifth grader? -- I was aware of
things like "chicks dig the bad boy" phenomenon. I discovered reprints of
the FF around the time that "Happy Days" premiered, you know, and
Fonzie,
in the early episodes, was little more than a thug. And yet, who did all the
girls love...?

Oh, and sorry, Darren -- I thought that quote was pulled from your post.

I want the characters that I develop an attachment to
to be happy.

If they were, I'll bet you'd get bored real fast!

Where are these school systems that do not allow mention of abstinence? I was born and raised on the wacky left coast, and I do not recall any sex ed course that did not mention abstinence as the only 100% effective way of preventing pregnancy and STDs. I also do not recall any sex ed course that did not emphasize that condoms were not 100% effective. I

****

When I was in school, not that long ago, it went like this

"Ok, you shouldn't be having sex but since you will...................condoms and if you don't use them, here are some nasty pictures." Then the banana came out, etc.

"You shouldn't drink but I since you willl......................don't drive drunk"

"You shouldn't smoke pot, but I know you will..............."

Teachers always assumed we were all doing these things and gave like no time at all to actually telling kids "Don't do that" and trying to reinforce it.

It was basically "Yeah I drank and partied and did drugs and had sex as a teen so I know all of you will too."

and almost all of my friends-didn't drink until at least college (and I don't drink now)

didn't do drugs ever-and I never have

and didn't have sex in high school-to be fair, though that was the girl's fault ;)

God forbid y'all have teenagers someday and are shocked to discover your daughter has gotten pregnant behind your back because you wouldn't talk to them about safe sex.

*****

IMO, the vast majority of these kids are not getting enough monitoring from their parents, or enough imparting of their parents values in them. Anything can happen to anyone.  But the majority of the kids who are getting someone pregnant are not getting parental supervision.  There is a difference between ignoring something and letting your kids know constantly what type of person they need to be.

The sexual revoltution is now extending down into middle schoolers.  Oh happy day. So instead of a small percentage of girls being shamed back in the day(which shoud have been handled differently) we have a large percentage of kids now who have a potential problem.  At a time when there is less personal responsibility for anyone. The teen pregancy rate and the absent father rate in many cities in particular is astronomical.  the social impact has been huge.

You DO know that Jean and Wolverine get it on in Ultimate X-Men #01,
right?

I know that many comics produced these days
are whacking material.   People who can't get laid
like to watch cartoons doing it.

Sad, really.

"You DO know that Jean and Wolverine get it on in Ultimate X-Men #01,

I didn't.

I liked the whole triangle that couldn't be either articulated or physically manifest itself. It added a level of tension but without actually undermining Jean as a character. I mean she found Wolvy an attractive personality but she -loved- Scott. To say that she was going to jeopordise her love for that attraction seems to undermine her character.

Not to mention that somehow seems to go against her mental prowess.

edit to accent "loved"

Wolverine is who 300lb fanboys and emotional adolescents think they would be if they were superheroes. He is kewl. He has these bitchin' claws and he knows how to use them. He smokes and swears. Not like that pussy Cyclops.

So, of course, they want to see Wolverine nail Jean. That's what they'd do. And that's what the comics (and the movies) pander to.

And after everybody has fucked everybody, and killed everybody, and generally turned the whole of ^^***** (and DC) into the kind of place the sad boys would make it if they were in charge -- well, then the sad boys will start complaining about how boring it all is. Same old same old.

Ultimate Jean as I understand it is fairly different then regular Jean.  (Ultimate Wolverine is pretty similarwhy mess with your cash cow? Not as mellowed as regular Wolverine has become at times, perhaps) She is more outgoing. She had an affair with Wolverin in issue one, and dropped him for the more responsible Cyclops.

I don't think she is particularly relevant to regular Jean Grey.

It's entirely frustrating when 'you' begin to feel like Cassandra.

Just to think 'we' have to sit back and ride it all out before there may be a chance to come full circle-grrr
