Nobody does the math, do they? My bundle of comps came today, containing an issue of TEEN TITANS with Wonder "Girl" on the cover in an embrace with some studly guy. The same Wonder Girl who was 14 when I created her. Sure grew up fast. About five years worth at least, not counting OYL.I wonder why writers and artists are so afraid to deal with real teenagers? Are writers afraid they will reveal they are not hep to their happenin' jive? Do artists fear they will reveal themselves to be Gay if they draw females with anything less than 40 inch chests? (Particularly odd, considering. . . ) A clue, guys. All those "teenagers" on TV and in the movies? They're, like, 26. So, how old is Batman, again?

Funny, how most of the current "Teen" Titans are 19-20 years old, isn't it?

This upsets me greatly, JB. I always liked the "Cassie" you created.
Last night, upon return from my LCS, I started to read the phone-book sized DC SHOWCASE: THE TEEN TITANS and was amazed at how good a job Nick Cardy did drawing "teenagers" that looked like teenagers. It was just simply impressive--especially since I had just finished reading INFINITE CRISIS in which NONE of the teenage characters looked like teenagers.
*sigh*

To be fair; have you ever been forced to listen to 14 year old girls talk? Pass the revolver! I kid.
I have no problem with a writer getting the specifics of teen-lingo wrong, as long as the essential tone and meaning behind all the chatter is there. Kids may dress differently and talk differently than they did when Stan Lee was writing about their exploits in the 60's, but they still want the same basic things: acceptance, fun, adventure, etc.

It is annoying when you think about it. Why can't there be real teenagers in comics? I just rarely think about it. I just want good stories. If the story is good I can suspend the disbelief that Bruce Wayne does not age, but Dick Grayson ages pretty quick, and Tim Drake ages even quicker. I guess it just speeds up faster for each generation of hero.
But I am sure you miss out on a lot of really great stories ending the teenage years for the roaring 20s.

All I know is that 15-16 year olds now look nothing like they did when I was in high school.
I think the government is putting some type of *ahem* enhancement chemical in the water.

Maybe she went to the same Swiss boarding school the parents from " The Young the Restless" rely on.

Just so everyone knows what JB is talking about, here's the cover to TEEN TITANS Annual 1. The studly guy is Superboy and, although I haven't read the issue yet, I hear he gets his studliness on with Cassie in this issue:

For what it's worth, the issue itself was pretty good.

That cover artist also seems to have aged Raven after she was de-aged by Johns when he took over the Titans title.

If it really involves teenagers having sex, I'd say the
word you're looking for is "irresponsible" rather than
"good".

There aren't many artists who make younger characters look young, as opposed to looking like cut-down adults. JB is one-- Cassie was a terrific character when created but has become a Britney clone pop tart since then. The new Superboy was terrific when created by Tom Grummett... but he got aged and bulked up too, and got less visually interesting. (To me, Conner Kent's new look was a knockoff of Arn Munro from Young All-Stars.)
FWIW, JB, I wish you were doing Teen Titans.
