Have you ever drawn the Eternals JB?

****

Ikaris and Pixie, the latter being one I created myself.

I also wrote Sersi, in THE AVENGERS.

There's a JB Sersi character study floating around as well. I guess it was
done for Paul Ryan.

JB also drew Sersi in the Cap and Android Human Torch reunion story in AWC, I think it was issue 56 or thereabouts.

Michael, you're right that Rhino was originally a Spider-Man villain (he first showed up in Amazing Spider-Man #41).  The Hulk "borrowed" him in the 70s, and he spent the 70s and early 80s as a Hulk villain.

Speaking of the Hulk borrowing villains (is it just me, or did he have a relatively high percentage of regular foes who first showed up elsewhere?), the first time he fought the Absorbing Man (Crusher Creel), Creel was beaten because he absorbed the Hulk's gamma powers.  Hulk turned back into Banner and Creel suddenly found himself similarly drained of power.  This was in Hulk #125.  I don't know if this is typical of the way Absorbing Man was portrayed, but that's at least one data point for the proposition that he can absorb the characteristics of living beings.

I'll echo the special fondness for the depiction of the Abomination. I was always fond of JB's art for him in the MARVEL UNIVERSE handbook, and in the commission I especially dig that textured shading on the forearm he's swingin' at the Hulk. That scaley effect, like Wolverine's arm hairs, is I think one of those things that may be easy, if monotonous, to depict, but it's also the kind of attention to detail that I suspect drew many of us to JB's artwork in the first place.

"Typical" is probably the key word here. Many times writers -- including some who should know better -- will use a hero's or villain's powers as suits their story, rather than tailoring the story to the characters. I parodied this in SHE-HULK, when I had Razorback, the trucker superhero from Arkansas, turn up having "recently discovered" he was a mutant with the ability to drive anything.

JB: Ross at that time was suffering from an eye problem that made it difficult for him to properly balance the forms within an image. To get around this, he used to lay out the page on the back, then flip it over, and lightbox it so he could do the tightening.

I believe Sean Chen has a similar condition.  When I met him at the Motor City Con a couple years back, I noticed that the backs of his original art pages all had a loosely penciled layout.  When I asked him about it, he mentioned he had some eye condition and this helped him to "correct" it, but I can't remember more details than that.

Nice work on this one, too, JB!  Nice to see your pencil-work before inking, too.

Thanks for sharing.

Great, great, great, JB. This may very well be my favorite thing you've inked yourself. Wow. Thanks for taking the (somewhat) before/ after approach in sharing with us too.
