That advertising executive was a childish swipe at Steve Gerber, IIRC

There were a couple of interesting bits in Secret Wars II, but it lacked the fun of the first one, and was far too convoluted. Still, there were some nice moments, here and there.
9 issues though is an odd number

Shooter to me was the worst thing and subsequently ruined Marvel to the point that Frank Miller, John Bryne and George Perez left because of him...
I am glad he will never work in the comics field again....

Brian -- If I'm remembering right, there was a lot of fan speculation that the White Event that started the New Universe was caused by the Beyonder. Marvel's official position was always that the New Universe had nothing to do with the Beyonder (and we would later find out what actually caused the White Event -- possibly during JB's run on Starbrand, if I'm remebering right).
As for Sal Buscema, Walt Simonson's done a lot of great things over the years, but one of the best things he ever did was have Marvel hire Sal as his replacement penciller on Thor. That reintroduced Sal (or introduced him for the first time) to a bunch of fans and let us know what we should have known all along -- that Sal was one heck of an artist!

The thing I remember most about SW2 was that white suit the Beyonder wore and his mullet. Was the Beyonder supposed to be The New Next Big Character From the House of Ideas? Did Shooter have a desire to make Beyonder some sort of Superman-type figure or something?

Heck while we are commenting on Secret Wars, I might as well toss my opinion in.
It was a "C". Fun to read once but not worth re-reading. I was curious to see where this story would go with all these diverse heros and vilians thrown together and forced to live in one house, err planet. Was this the reality TV of comics?
Secret Wars II was a "D". While I did not get physically sick while reading it, I really could have missed it.

I've not heard any tale about Frank leaving because of Shooter. Anyone want to enlighten me?

The best thing about Secret Wars II was this cover. I was so excited to see JB's X-Men again even if only on this one cover.

I did not know that. I wonder why classless movtives like that often result in good work being done?

There was a line in SW2 that always bugged me.
After the Beyonder got ALL the power in the universe,
the text said something to the effect that "The
Beyonder had the power to make every knee in the
universe bow to him...except one which was a
special case."
I always wondered about that. Was it a reference to
God that was thrown in to take the edge off of a
statment that might piss of religious people?
Sad thing is; Thats about all I remember about that
series (well that and the whole "This strange feeling
I'm having", the white jumpsuit and jeri curled mullet,
and of course Ben DeRoy)!
Weird what gets stuck in the brain after all these
years!

I don't know. I feel bad for him. He was going to do this Legion story at DC, until he claimed he was told people at DC would freak out if he did. He also almost did something at Marvel with the Avengers.
and even the couple of comopanies he helped start up were pretty good for a time.
Like he said in an interview "Am i the worst writer in the world that no comic company can use me?" This was 3 -5 years ago.
