I never noticed that Dean Cain is a quarter Japanese until it was pointed out to me that his birth name was Dean Tanaka.

The first time I ever saw him I could tell he was partially asian.  I thought he was a horrible casting decision because of it, then and ever since.

I disagree. When I watched Smallville with some friends I went to my comic book collection and picked out Man of Steel to show them what the show was based on. Everyobody looked like their counterparts so much that you connect them immediately, except for Lana, who clearly wasn't the same person to them. On the contrary, Dean Cain looks like Superman with black hair as in the comic. When we get closer we may notice that he has brown eyes and Lois also have brown eyes, but they are not different characters, but the non-blonde Pete Ross and Kristin Kreuk are.

Now I've heard everything! My cousin Staci (22 years old) just informed me she's been a fan of Smallville for about a year now, but had no idea that Clark Kent was a young Superman. She said she just thought it was an original TV show. In fact she thought Superman's other identity was Kent Clarke. All I can say is......Great Scott!

Cynthia Ettinger as Ma Kent in the Smallville Pilot, and again after the weight gain for her role in Carnivale.

Sorry to go off topic, but I didn't think we'd get around to having a "hottest Ma Kent" thread.

Ms. Ettinger was fired from Smallville for being too young and attractive for the role.  A complimentary release for Cynthia and an insulting hire for Ms. O'Toole.  "The last gal was too young and hot, but you'll do just fine."

So the thing in the opening credits about "Superman created by..." didn't clue her in, I guess...

Yikes!

Annette O'Toole seems to be the Ultimate Byrne Girl!

I'm about afraid to say this.  I don't think Annette O'Toole is attractive at all.  I always thought the goal in SupermanIII was to find someone less attractive than Margot Kidder...

The trouble with Chloe is she's just too perfect!!  How can you not fall in love with her!  Every time she's on screen I say so.

My wife adores Dean Cain (she's the one with the Lois and Clark DVD, not me!). He's a great romantic lead...and L&C was a romantic show.

Michael Connell:

#3 Kristen Kreuk Very cute but not my idea of Lana Lang not a red head and not a snoopy little gal trying to prove that Clark is Superboy. I know, I know Clark isn't Superboy on Smallville. So sue me I grew up reading Silver-Age comic books.

The way I see it, Smallville's Chloe is supposed to be the Silver Age Lana, while the Smallville Lana (colorblind casting notwithstanding) is the post-MOS Lana.

Eric,

I think you've got it backwards.

Andrew Kneath: "Annette by far the best thing about Superman III."

Well, technically, the best thing was the junkyard battle between "good" and "evil" Superman. But she was easily the second-best thing about the flick, and she's STILL way hotter than the current Lana.

Kristen Kreuk? Beautiful to be sure, but this is "colorblind casting" and one of the reasons I don't watch "Smallville."

Primarily the reason I don't watch it, either.
