I don't know, Varo. I think that part of the 'magic' of JB's Alpha Flight was
that he wasn't too close to the characters. He took some amazing
storytelling risks with that series that only served to make it stronger and
better. It can be difficult to put characters you care strongly about through
hell.

I'd argue the Alphans had more opportunity to develop as fully rounded
characters because JB didn't didn't identify too closely with them. They were
a job, and he was a pro.

I'll take a pro doing his job any day if that's the kind of results it produces.

In the French version ( if I recall well ), this issue and the next one were presented back to back so you just had to turn the page and you would have the next story.

Anyway, it was a grand finale, a bang of a departure and I was sad to not be able to enjoy John's work on this team anymore. Luckily for me, his FF was still available in another publication and then he came back on She-Hulk...

Was this Denny O'Neil the same person who worked as a writer for the Neal Adams Batman run?

Someone needs to commission the 'real' next page of AF vs. the Incredible Hulk.

Four things that I enjoy about this issue:

1.  The car turned robot.

2.  The 'dispatching' of the guy from the future, and the character's realization.

3.  Fishing for the Hulk.

4.  Hulk smashing Box.

JB, how did the forced inclusion of the Beyonder alter your plans for this issue?

Sounds like I missed a hell of a run on the rest of the series Al.  I need to hunt that version down in  an alternate universe.  Now where did I place the keys to my reality hopping machine?

Al, I need that issue!

Anyway, I, too, would be very interested in hearing how JB intended to rescue Talisman if the Beyonder was not present.  However, it seems relatively easy to do - just have Shaman  mumble some jumble.

Overall, this is a great issue.  Very fun.  Poor Omega Flight though.  Jaxon dead.  Courtney destroyed.  Alec trapped as a mindless drone.  Flashback incapacitated.  And without any will to continue as villains.  So much could have been done with them.  They made a great team.  If I was the writer after JB, I would definitely have reunited them together (restored Alec.  Resolve Flashback's problem.  Stick them with a new Jaxon/Courtney leader from Roxxon.  Add Caliber as replacement for evil-Box.)

But like so many things, this would not be in the future.

Glad you liked it, Brian! Would have liked to have seen it myself -- if you
find your keys, let me know.

Was it really 28 weeks ago that Ryan started this reading club?

I'd also like to know if or how the Beyonder changed plans for this issue.
