So wait a sec...We're in the midst of maybe the best storyline in the history of AF. The inking looks INCREDIBLE, especially after Wiacek's gossamer thin lines. Everything is clicking, even after the kick in the gut reveal in the last issue...and JB is LEAVING? Noooooooooooooooooo!!!!

Seeing Shaman's bag turned inside out remains one of the coolest things
I've ever seen in comics. Absolutely loved this issue -- although I really
wanted Mac to be alive. Dagnabbit !!
This issue really shows how the characters had developed to the point
where they had unlimited potential. I know JB never "loved" this series but
he easily could have "coasted" and produced another 27 -- or 54 for that
matter -- issues of classic 80s Marvel.
I really believe that if JB had stayed on Alpha Flight (and never left Marvel
for DC) they would have become a key part of the MU. It's too bad that
they fell astray without the "Chief" leading them...
Here's to Alpha Flight.... what might have been....

Under the circumstances, Talisman was probably sorry to see her come back, too...
Two questions for JB -
a) Did you have a "Non-Beyonder-related" resolution to the cliffhanger for this issue?
b) Was Snowbird brought back because Bill Mantlo asked you to or something like that? Her arrival seemed to be the catalyst for stuff that you weren't planning on actually following through with yourself (Snowbird's continuing involvement with the team, Shaman saving her instead of Elizabeth, which led to a) the Secret Wars II crossover and b) Mantlo's take on both characters, etc.).

I just noticed Snowbird's hairline and lack of eyebrows. LOL 25 years into it and I just noticed it.
I second the question about the Beyonder's involvement -- planned or forced?

Man...the secrets of Shaman's pouch were so great, Talisman lost in the pouch, and that story was messed up by the Beyonder resolution in Secret Wars II!

Question for JB --
Don't know if this has been asked before, but who picked out the little heads for the corner box on the AF issues? I remember reading this issue as a kid and finding it amusing that Guardian was part of the corner box -- even though Guardian wasn't really in the book.

That was the only issue I read when the series was originally running. I had no idea who Alpha Flight were, but I immediately recognized what my 8 year old mind saw as the Fantastic Four style art.
It might have been the first time I bought an issue based on who the artist was.

I used to read the following few titles growing up - X-Men, Avengers, Marvel Team Up, Marvel Two In One, Fantastic Four and Alpha Flight. --- all books John Byrne had significant runs with OR great storylines (involving charcaters I truly enjoyed). George Perez also was tied to several of these titles.
So for me -- I always view the Marvel Universe in terms of how Perez or Byrne drew the characters.
