Every time I see Wild Child, I am reminded how later
artists took away his unique features. I never understood why...

++

I never understood either. He wasn't the only character to get that
treatment. Lil lost her extra height and Madison lost his working man
looks. This, as I'm sure you know, was just a symptom of a larger lack of
care with the book as it moved further beyond JB's run.

••

And Gary Cody turned from a skinny guy with dark hair (ie, Gary Cody!)
into a non-skinny guy with blond hair (ie, me!). And Heather got big
boobs, and Bochs got "fixed" and Puck got "fixed" and on and on and on…

"Another one without the cover copy I wrote for it."

-----

Do you happen to remember what you meant for it to say? To me this cover works great without any copy at all. "Defeated" seems rather redundant considering you drew them all, well, defeated.

Ed, I remember seeing the Puck panel in a magazine, too. According to Time's archives, they ran an article about the Mall in October of 1986. That has to have been it.

(My West Edmonton Mall story: About 10 years after this issue, I finally made my trip to Western Canada and spent the better part of a weekend in the mall. It was, in fact, my first experience with the internet, as there was a cyber cafe down near the Hooters and the Hard Rock Cafe. There was also a comic shop at the time. Part of me was really hoping to see a guy in a Guardian costume when I walked out. No dice. There were, however, several people roaming the mall dressed as Klingons, which I thought was a bit odd.)

As for the issue, I can still remember realizing what was happening from the foreshadowing, and the sense of dread as I turned those last pages, hoping I wasn't right. Still loved the series, though. At least for a couple more issues.

I wrote reports for audits I conduct, records I inspect, etc -- I hate it when my boss edits my reports.  He hasn't seen the records or talked to the business owner, etc -- why edit me?  I can only imagine it is a similar frustrated feeling for the writer/artist to be editited after-the-fact (i.e. removal of cover copy).

What an incredible issue. Again, one of my favorites.

JB, knowing you were less than thrilled to be working on this series, was there a sense of relief at this stage knowing the end was near?

Excitement at getting a crack at the Hulk?

I wanted that She-Hulk poster in the comic shop all the more after noticing it here.  And look at all those Classic Marvel Figurines in the front display!  :^)

And now the end is near....

Another absolutely thrilling issue to me at the time. I was so shocked by that reveal in the final few pages. Loved seeing Omega Flight again though - my favourite super villain team.

Yes, to both. Alas, things didn't turn out so well, did they. For me, or for
Alpha.

Anyone notice the JB Hulk cover from the future on the stands in the comic
shop?
