JB, Did you intend for the change to Aurora to be permanent?

After flipping through the Danger Unlimited trade this morning, I started thinking what Alpha Flight would have looked like with the Duotone treatment every month.  Pat's avatar and Northstar recreation times 22 pages times 28 issues...drool...

Yeah -- I'm not 100% on the Northstar I did -- it was for an experiment with duotone board (to get used to using it), but it just didn't come off exactly as I envisioned it.  It needs more blacks, but to add more takes away from the duo effect I was trying to achieve.  I guess that's why I look at numbers all day and guys like JB get paid to draw.

This was when we were introduced to the new outfit of Aurora. This last page got me hooked. Could hardly wait for the following issue!

And I'm proud to have it in my collection.

Pat, I think it was a hell of a first attempt!

••

Nope. In fact, I hinted at the future I planned (in the loosest sense) for
Aurora, when I had the psychiatrist point out to Jean-Paul that curing her
might merely result in the emergence of a third, completely different
personality.

Walter's thoughts on Aurora being a mutant made him a little
less likable. Maybe I am reading him wrong, but he sounds like he's
ashamed for her and would rather conceal her nature.

••

Correct! I wanted to show how deeply ingrained that prejudice was/is.
Walter was like one of those well-meaning souls who wants to "cure"
homosexuals.

Huh.

That totally went over my head when I first read this issue back in the day. I took Walter's "good intentions" at face value.

Include me as a fan of Chasen's, uh, wardrobe malfunction - although it was a while yet before I got the context.  I especially like Mac's reassurance, with the subtext being "if Wolverine cuts out your heart, it's not by mistake".

I was with you, Vinny.  I thought Walt was just looking out for Jeanne-Marie.
