One of the smaller delights of my art collection is owning now the originals
(or, at the very least, recreations by the original artists) of pages I copied as
a kid.

J.B.
The amount of pages I drew and redrew of yours is crazy.
And it would be phenomenal to own an AF page.
It's cool to hear that you did the same thing when you were a kid.
Side note - This past August the Romitas were in Toronto for the 'Canadian National Fan Expo'. I told John Sr. that I used to trace his covers for 'Spidey Super Stories' till they were ruined.
He says to me with a big smile, "I did the same thing! I ruined my Superman #1 by tracing over it so many times!"
It is my all-time favourite convention moment.
I was last in a 2-hour long line, and he was still all smiles. Heck of a nice man!
P.S. J.B. if you EVER reconsider convention-going please give Toronto a thought.

I always thought they were French-Canadian.

Pat: The Inuit are one of the many indigenous peoples that make up what
used to be, in less PC days, called "Eskimos".
Ted: French-Canadian is a bit of a touchy term for some. You're right, of
course, but the less inflammatory descriptor would be "Quebecois".

Me too. I drew certain Guardian poses lifted straight from AF panels.
As well, I had a martial arts book that swiped the action from Miller & Janson
and the features of Northstar and Aurora. Wish I could find old art pads and
scan them to share!

Now -- the Ultimate Northstar is definitely getting banged by Colossus -
so there's no question there....

I'm totally not regretting my decision to get out of comics
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
Comics now are i think very similiar to comics 20yr ago in that sex is not
shown "on panel." I'm not sure if that's what you meant, that you don't
want to see northstar having sex. You don't, any more than we ever saw
Jean and Scott. If it's the idea, well you made the right decision then
because I think gay characters are supposed to have just as active a sex
life as everyone else. I have to say that like a lot of people, i didn't pick up
on Northstar's sexuality as a kid, but i don't think i would've cared
anymore then than now. Sexuality should be a part of your character, not
the defining characteristic and I don't think it ever has been for northstar.

Originally we didn't see northstar as gay and it wasn't enough to make most
of us leave comics. Plus it is in the seperate ultimate line so we've still got
the original Colossus. And i say with no snarkyness but talking about
colossus
makes me think of this, wasn't she under 16 and he over 18 when they got
together?

No character's sexuality made me leave comics, but hearing about one I'm familiar with being altered into something he's not just reinforces an aspect of what I saw wrong with comics, and why I don't buy them anymore. Whether it is the original Colossus or Ultimate, doesn't matter. Northstar is what he is and I don't like him any better or less for being gay.
