Again, I love the fact that Sue is in her new uniform, but still has the jacket with the old style coloring scheme. Also love how the story steps back several minutes from the last page of issue #3. The explanation of the Plodex race is brilliant too, better than the typical conquering alien race.

That's a neat cover. I like the way JB got rid of the Sub-Mariner's wrist bands in the preceding issue of Fantastic Four.

This was one of the Alpha Flight issues I didn't like much. It just seemed too anticlimatic. I know JB was trying to be a little surprizing at the end, but it fell flat for me. Luckily, the next issue....well, I'll wait for it!

I thought this was a really fun, great issue. I didn't exactly get the huge slugfest I wanted, but it was suprising fun regardless and that's even better. The cover, as mentioned by several others, was great. And the Plodex made a truly "alien" alien race. It was fresh and it was new, and those are the elements that made the Marvel Universe exciting to me.
I do have some questions though. One, what was the reason why Namor and the Invisible guest starred in this issue? Two, how was Denny O'Neil was an editor? I have a high regard of the results of Denny's work, but am intrigued as whether he did anything special to produce it.

Sue and Namor appeared because I was also doing FF at the time. Cross
promotion.
Denny was an ideal editor. He stood back and let his people do their work,
offering sage council only when he thought it was needed.

Interesting "credit" for Jim Shooter: "Resolved"
Any back story on that?

JB, when you wrote AF #4 at the time, did you think that many of your FF readers would not have followed you to Alpha Flight? Did it cause any bump in the sales figures (and did these sales continue after)? Was this the start of the trend of Byrne Victims?
I realize you might not remember such details, but I am curious. Sue's and Namor's appearance is almost like a Deus ex Machina. After reading #3 and #4, tt seems like Namor's sole purpose was as an excuse to get Sue, and it sounds like from your answer that is exactly what it was. I thought their inclusion stole a bit of Alpha's thunder, but I liked the issue anyway.
Thanks for your answer.

Does anyone know which is the earliest JB rendition of Namor?

Now there's a question I wouldn't even attempt to answer myself.
Unless, just maybe, it's THIS.

So, here we see the first glimpses of the not-so-conventional "relationship" between Sasquatch and Aurora. It didn't quite dawn on me as a kid that they were basically "F*ck Buddies". This was probably a first for a super-hero comic, too.
I would have loved to have seen how that "night in New York" played out - no, not the naughty stuff, but how it got to that point. What would they be doing in NY anyway, unless they had already agreed in advance to go there together?
++++++++++
Was this the first mention of it? I'd always wondered if it occurred in one of the guest appearances in another title that took place in-between AF's appearances in Uncanny X-Men and the beginning of their own series. Or does this bit of history all into the Brass Bishop vein (a cool throwaway reference to a story we never saw)?

This was the issue with which I started to realize this was going to be series
alot different from other group titles. I was really drawn in to the art where
many times the lack of background focused attention on the figures like a
stage play might. Great stuff.
