i love this issue -- especially the cover! alpha flight is one of my favorite
series from the early '80s. my friends and i used to play-act alpha flight
scenarios on the playground at school.

Most of the girls at my school were far too busy playing with their cindy & barbie dolls & the likes to even think about comics! I sure wish there were a few girls at my school like you eva! (;

my cousin and i pretended to be northstar and aurora. there was a really
tall boy named caleb who would sometimes agree to be sasquatch.

i don't see what's so strange about playing make believe. there were boys
playing basketball pretending to slam dunk like michael jordan every day.
we were all three feet tall.

Ah, make believe. One of the greatest pastimes from my childhood. I remember kindergarten Superman/Batman team ups with my best childhood friend (sometimes the girl I had my first crush on joined us as Supergirl) and wide variety of things from elementary school with that same friend who had invented his own superhero persona Sportsman (if I recall correctly, his power was to be good at any kind of sports) - I was usually switching between characters I'd been reading about recently and still remember quite vividly being Jason Blood/Etrigan after first encountering him (or should it be them?) in the pages of a Superman comic by JB.

the caleb that i knew had batman and robin wallpaper in his bedroom. but i
don't think he got into alpha flight much. we always had to explain the
characters to him every time we played.

i know john is less than enthusiastic about his alpha flight work, but it will
always be special to me.

How strange that you should post this particular issue the day after I dug it out of my comics box and reread it for the first time in over a decade.

Stick around, Greg!  We're doing one issue a week, every Thursday, and Fantastic Four is winding down the final issues as well.
