Mr. Byrne and friends:

I have always enjoyed your style of artwork. The musculature and cleanness if line; the shear power of the human form. I think you emphasized the uniqueness of Nightcrawler's mutant origins in the fact that you drew him with the bird-like, narrow hips, and emphasized the strength and power of his hands and feet. He was strong and sensual at the same time. Is there a way to get a print of any of your Nightcrawler drawings? He is by far my favorite X-Man, and your interpretation of him has always been my favorite.

I think you might want to repost this as a direct question instead.

No, I caught it! Two days late, sure, but....

Thanks for the kind words, Mary. You have no idea how much I struggled with Nightcrawler! He was a pure Cockrum character, and every time I tried to bring my own "vision" to his portrayal I would end up reaching for the eraser! (If only I could have looked a couple of decades into the future!)

Anyway, the only Nighcrawler art you'll see from me, aside from convention sketches I have done over the years, is what was published in the comics. Sorry.

....is my Best. Nightcrawler. Ever.

I keep forgetting how great your stuff looks when you ink it yourself..
I don't mind other inkers, but it's like with Neal, only Dick Giordano ever really 'understood' how to ink Neal Adams, otherwise, it was always better if Neal inked himself, and I think the same holds true with your stuff.
It's that sense of raw inspiration that's usually missing when someone else is inking.
I always felt that Giordano was the exception to the rule on Neal though, and I guess that's part of why he's so highly regarded.
- How did you feel about him inking your Superman?
Personally, I thought it looked pretty great!

Thank you for your response, Mr. Byrne! And everyone else!  I will look on Zazzle.com and get one of those pictures on a t-shirt! It must have taken quite a bit of study in anatomy to get everything just so perfect. The human body is a beautiful thing when done to perfection. Some of the art I have seen in comics at times makes me shudder in revulsion! This Philip Tan guy who was doing the X-Men...yeesh! Ick! Caught some of dave Cockrum's private renderings of Kurt and I love those too. Art has to be just right for me or I can't read the story!
