1. Does anyone know who designed the original Avengers Quinjet for
Marvel? Byrne or Perez? Someone else?

2. Has there ever been a scale model of the Quinjet such as those made for
Star Trek ships?

Thanks.

That version (above) is mine. Howver, it is not the original version. Most artists just drew whatever they felt like. It only became formalized after I drew it -- which, oddly enough, has been something of a theme in my career. I draw something, and that becomes the "definitive" version. The most amazing (to me) example was when I drew the tombstones of Thomas and Martha Wayne in "Untold Legend of the Batman", and for years thereafter everybody drew what I had drawn!

And, no, so far as I know there has not yet been a model of any version of the quinjet

Okay here's a question I can't recall ever seeing anything about. Simple explanation for it I imagine as well. Maybe I missed an issue somewhere. But why is it called a quinjet exactly? Just because someone named it that? Never really thought of it until now.

 Anyone?

Based on the drawing shown above it looks to be powered by 5
jets...hence, QUINjet.

I remember when Avengers Quinjets were open-top vehicles that strongly
resembled the ship the Champions jetted around in. (I believe JB drew this
version of Quinjet when the Avengers made a guest appearance in one of
his early Fantastic Four issues.)

course it could be named that because it only holds 5 people comfortably and safely.

The jets are a possibility. But did it always have five jets then? I have seen a wide number of versions over the years and it doesn't always seem to correspond to five. Again maybe I have missed something. But yes, I knew quin was for five as in quintuplet and so on.

So if it had eight we'd have to call it an Octjet or Octojet? And would Dr. Octopus sue the Avengers for that? Maybe I am just overthinking all this.

 Carry on ..

Noted that the thing does, indeed, appear to have exactly 5 jet engines (Jeff Stockwell) and 5 seats (Ed Love).

And regards to JB for his thoughts about subsequent comicbook artists treating his inventions as cannon. I've long thought this must be true, though I would have guessed, off the top of my head, that this illustration was from Buscema -- who with Roy Thomas, must be responsible for the original concept -- (note the "Wakanda Design Group" designation) or Perez.

Speaking as one who owns no action figures, busts, or models of superheroes whatsoever -- it is true that a model of the Avengers Quinjet would be quite tempting. Especially if it were of this design, and I could have it autographed.

First appearance of this particular version of the Q-jet.

Note how, when he drew the version above, Elliot Brown removed some details, added some, and made the overall shape somewhat "stubbier".

(Also note, based on the Beast's dialog here, that they are apparently flying the new, improved Octo-Jet. . . )

This may be the first issue of Avengers I ever bought. Snagged it in a small used book store in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Man, for such a small city it had a great selection of back issues, all in a "four for a buck" price.

I love the sense of things happening in that picture, with the flaps open on one side in response to Wasp and Beast piloting the Quinjet.

JB signed that issue for me. I got it in a 3-for-a-dollar plastic bag in the toy section of a department store.
