Forums everywhere are dying off. In a post-facts world, it's much easier to be a passive consumer of content on your favorite echo chamber.

I’ve seen a few discussions about email types that can be accepted by the
forum registration process.
For example, I use my work account.
I’ve seen many claim that a free account such as gmail doesn’t get
accepted, but I’ve not tested that with my Google account . I never updated
my Google email address to gmail.

But if it is the case that Gmail would not be accepted, that could be a big
barrier to gaining new members.
Is Outlook classed as a paid account?

This board is pretty active for an Internet forum, I’d argue. Most forums have been replaced by Facebook Groups, Reddit Subreddits, and Discord servers. If anyone is nostalgic for 90s AOL chat rooms, there’s Discord.

The email barrier is probably a thing but I understand why it's there.
I think that's what knocked Robbie Parry out.

Forums seemed to have a surge during COVID lockdown, but not so much activity the past year.

I still prefer them as a format because they are a slow-paced conversation you can have at your own leisure.

Every once in a while I think about taking down the Forum Decorum rule and opening the doors to any and all—just to show why we need those rules!

Not likely. I know too well that the level of intelligence with which we’re dealing in some quarters lacks the sophistication to seize the opportunity to prove me wrong.

People having non-gmail/hotmail/etc accounts is rare these days. I don't have access to the email that I originally gave to this forum, and I just use Gmail at this point. My Verizon FIOS ISP may or may not offer personal email accounts, but I never bothered to find out because I would prefer to use an email address that stays with me if I were to switch providers.
