So………perusing some online comments about my work and in the middle of a deathless paean—I am, apparently, The Man—in which I am described as drawing “everything just right” there is a sudden jog to the left with “except hands and feet”.

Now, honestly, this is the first time I have seen anything negative about how I render hands and feet, yet this commentator presents his view as if it is an Accepted Truth and then, all too typically, proceeds with no further elaboration.

This is one of my least favorite things on the Internet, the opinion expressed as Fact with no need felt to support the statement.

Have I been missing something? I know I don’t draw backgrounds and all my faces look the same—but has there really been a vast groundswell of grumbling about…..hands and feet??

Absolutely nothing I've seen - all of your hands and feet are not only fine in my view, they should be used within the industry as prime examples of How to Do it Right.

Admittedly, I have never taken notice of the way you (or any other artist) draw feet, but I do think you draw hands MAGNIFICENTLY!!

… need to keep their uninformed and unsupported opinions to themselves.

A great pall of silence rolls across the InterWeb!

Just the opposite.

In fact, the larger the hands get the better they look.

And who tackles bare feet more than JB? and with expertise. I notice these things!

Your feet and hands, particularly your ability to put heels and soles onto boots and believable glove-seams onto hands, were some of the first things that made me realize I really admired your drawing.

That's such an off the wall statement - your rendering of hands (and feet) are so natural and is what give your characters 'life'

Yeah, I don't get this critique, especially since you are one of the few artists that make an effort to draw animated hand gestures.

I once read (at least more than a decade) a piece talking about when you first appeared on the scene, praising your artwork, but it said you drew odd hands. It took me aback at the time, as I thought your hands were one of your (many) strongpoints.

The criticism you mention now seems even more strange -- at least the other one was talking about your early work.

I think you draw feet and hands expertly. Even in tiny figures, you capture those pesky digits very well. I have long admired how you capture a little je ne sais quois, a subtle something, when you draw women's toes.

I can't at all grasp what this fellow is referring to.

But it's always that "with no further elaboration" upon a blankly stated opinion which renders it pointless.

How about some examples? One?!

If not, ... moving on... (figuratively and literally) nothing to see here.

I think maybe John Buscema and Gil Kane draw hands and feet better than Byrne....

In other words, I wish I could draw hands and feet half as good as JB.
