A flashback of JB and Gary Cody, circa 1972/1973.

That picture produced one of the first times I had to become wrathful and vengeance seeking when dealing with the media.

For painting that mural, Gary and I were paid $1500, split between us, out of which had to come all our supplies. The local paper reported our fee with an extra zero added. We were both horrified. Imagine Revenue Canada jumping on us!

I wrote a letter to the editor pointing out the reality, and they edited it down such that the facts were just barely represented.

sigh

Happy belated!

If Gary and JB are still looking for work, I'll pay $1500 AND all supply expenses to come paint a wall in my home. Because I'm generous to a fault.

Reminds me of a humorous anecdote told by the great Stephen Fry.  It seems a newspaper reporter wrote a headline reading that 5,000 pigs were seen floating down the local river.  It turns out the witness had said “five sows and pigs.”

I suppose this is partially why Donald Trump was able to sell his "fake news" BS so successfully. Virtually all of us have seen instances where the "popular press" got things wrong to some degree. People who feel disenfranchised are bound to embrace the notion that the country and the world is actually different from what they are being told.

When I took on Superman, various papers in England were quick to embrace me as a native son. One, tho, went so far as to give me my father's life story, fighting in Burma in WW2 and working for the Midlands Electricity Board in the Fifties. (I'm inclined to suspect that was due to a popular misconception with many civilians. If someone is working on a character, s/he must have created the character. So I had to be old enough to have been a working adult in 1938.)

Q for JB - was the character/appearance of Gary Cody (Department H) based on the real life GC or was it purely coincidence?
