I've always loved Keith Williams inks on your work. I thought it meshed really well. Turns out you were kind of a pioneer on giving credit where credit was due as well. You're not such a bad guy after all!

Mr. Byrne, thanks for posting a link to the interview I conducted. Keith Williams is definitely a good person. And, yes, it also speaks very highly of you that you were so generous in helping an up-and-coming artist.

Keith Williams is a name I've so far always been glad to see in the credits. Quality and quantity!

Great interview. I know him most from inking your Superman, and really appreciate his work. Sounds like a genuinely nice guy too.

Oh, yes, one of the books I asked Keith Williams to sign for me when I met him was Avengers West Coast #53...

The art in AWC 53 was great, which is, of course, down to both JB and Keith Williams. A nice combination.

It's a great interview- I love and appreciate this quote:
John put my name on the cover of the books and my name was right beside his in the credits. I would also get pages from the books we did. No other inker had ever done that for a background artist or would expect that to be done for them. I will always be grateful to him for doing it. He helped my career because of it.
It highlights, I think, JB's concern for fellow creators and getting proper attribution for the people who make our comics

"Credit where credit is due" has been a campaign of mine since my earliest days in The Biz. And that applied to people I worked with, as much as to myself. I raised some hackles among fellow writers when I started listing the penciler's name above my own. But I did (and do) think the art is more important than the writing.*

As I've often said, no one ever walked into a comic shop, saw a new title on the rack, and thought to themselves "Gee, that looks well written!"

________

* As often used to be said, good art can save a bad story, while good writing cannot save bad art.
