It was great fun with the 2004 version that we board members collaborated on. It was cool that we all pulled it off. This 2021 version I posted here was just as much fun, but of course way more work for me personally since on this version I was the sole inker, letterer, and colorist.

I really wish I had thought to ask the guys involved in the "Fantastic Four Art Challenge" for high resolution scans, though. It's a bummer to realize that the only way that completed version exists is in very small, compressed files.

There was going to be a follow up to the FF Art Challenge, in the form of an original piece by board members featuring the Invisible Woman. Mike O'Brien was going to write it entirely, with several board members takling different pages. A few pages did get finished, I recall, but it fell apart.

Ah well... we'll always have the pleasant experience of the first FF Art Challenge.

For anyone interested, here is a link to the thread for what was to have been the second "Fantastic Four Art Challenge" I mentioned above:

Thanks again for the kind comments.

One thing I was happy to have this go around was some nice, clean scans of JB's original art that was posted at the Heritage Auction site. While the "Comics Interview" #25 was fine, seeing the scans of the original art allowed more fine details to be seen, and Heritage uploaded all the pages with most in very high res.

Thanks again, guys!

A little trivia about the sound effects I used in the 2021 version: The lettering was done by computer, as most might suspect, and I was happy with the font I used, but was wondering what I should do about the sound effects. I wanted the sound effects to look authentic to the period, so I took a page, so to speak, from JB's practice on ELSEWHEN and found some sound effects used in older comics, in this case mostly Jack Kirby comics, and repurposed them for this tale.

I completely forgot about this! It was so fun to watch it evolve in real time. Great work!

Fun stuff!

I know we will probably never see Mr. Byrne writing/drawing the FF again, this was a treat. Thanks for finishing this issue!
