Frank Thorne and his wife Marilyn both died today, about six hours apart. He was 90, her I’m not sure. Heartbreaking but beautiful that they should both go so close together. Vale the definitive RedSonja artist.

Latin for farewell. Tends to be used in Australia as a very respectful farewell message.

A favorite of mine!  Have a VERY special place in my heart for his Red Sonja!  So sorry to hear of his passing - and that of his wife.

He drew a glamorous Red Sonja. At 90, hopefully a life well lived and a career well respected.

90 is a pretty solid run these days.  Love his work, his Red Sonja in particular.

RIP

Don't know his work well but I own those first two Red Sonja books Thorne did in the mid-70s... a distinctive and adventurous style that served that book well. RIP

I know him best for his run on DC's Korak, Son of Tarzan. Part of a stellar line up artists recruited to do the ERB chracters.

Loved his work on Red Sonja.  He wasn't the first to draw her and didn't design her definitive chainmail bikini look, but he made that character his own.  And he clearly had a lot of fun with it.  I remember reading about his shows with Wendy Pini and other cosplayers:
