The JLGL Wonder Man was for OHOTMU deluxe edition #15 which has a cover date of March 1987.

I would have loved a Byrne AWC running alongside a Perez Avengers, including the annuals being a regular crossover.

Well, if Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez was forever locked in at DC, I guess the only way for him to do other characters was if they came to DC!  He did an 8-page back-up for their version of THE SPIRIT, and it was one of the best things I've ever seen!

But there were a few missed opportunities there.  It would have been possible to have seen--

Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez on TARZAN
Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez on JOHN CARTER
Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez on DOC SAVAGE

Over at Marvel, we also missed out on Rich Buckler on DOC SAVAGE too.  He did one cover or pin-up and it was just right!

Eric, Garcia-Lopez did do a short run on Tarzan, penciling issues #250-255 in 1976... one of his first jobs for DC:

Thanks!  Was it any good?  I see that he was inked by others, including Frank Springer--not the best fit!

If anybody's interested, JLGL also drew the first issues of HERCULES UNBOUND--inked by Wally Wood!  Not exactly what we expect from JLGL, but very nice in its own way!

Eric, you are correct that the inkers Garcia Lopez had on Tarzan were not the best match for him (and certainly none of them were the caliber of Wally Wood).  But it's still JLGL doing Tarzan, and the quality of his pencils shines through pretty well even with inks that weren't a great fit or in some cases were a little too flowery. It helps that he was drawing an adaptation of Tarzan the Untamed, possibly my favorite of the novels.  Worth tracking down even if it's not the best work he ever did.

A lot of good ones named. I'd still like to see the resolution of THE LAST GALACTUS STORY by JB and TA. I'd have loved to have seen John Buscema do any of the flagship DC superhero titles like Batman, Superman or the JLA.

Alan Davis did such a nice job with the low and high tech elements of KILLRAVEN that I can certainly see a BLACK PANTHER comic book by him being really good.

I'm not sure this would have been the "best comic never made" but I wish Kirby had returned to the Fantastic Four in '75 when he returned to Marvel. Maybe I'm fooling myself to think it would have approached the '60s run but I would have enjoyed seeing the art.

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby on Justice League of America.
John Byrne on Teen Titans.
Len Wein and Dave Cockrum on Shiar Imperial Guard.
Roger Stern and Gil Kane on Firestorm.

I did really enjoy Mr. Byrne's take on the Titans.  One of the few artists, along with Perez and Garcia-Lopez, that got Starfire right.

Hey, were you aware that Roy Thomas approached Kirby about coming back as co-plotter/artist, but Kirby was only willing to do it if he could be art robot and not do any plotting?  Thomas was unwilling to do that so the plan fell through.  Too bad.  I enjoyed Thomas' mid-70s run (particularly the Thing/Hulk two-parter) and it would have been interesting if Kirby had drawn those stories.
