....devoting a small fragment of his towering intellect to a recent addition to his studies...The contemplation of parallel universes and alternate realities they hold....
Love this nod to WHAT IF and the "recent" addition of the "What If Magneto had founded the X-Men?"
Now for my head to spin even more.... I guess the events of X-MEN 137 (In Marvel Time) would be something that this Watcher would view in an alternate reality.
With ELSEWHEN, I can now view X-MEN 137 (and all X-MEN stories) as WHAT IF???? tales. :-)
The more I look at this page, it reminds me of much of my comic reading youth of over 40 years ago.
Puts a smile on my face.......

Red Ghost and his Super Apes seem like the kind of villains who might have graced John's She Hulk for a minute of fun and frivolity (Dr. Bong being one of my favorite examples of this modus operandi) but it seems not to have happened. The loss is ours!••• Perhaps it’s the tender age at which I was introduced to them, but I don’t think of them as “funny”.

I feel like they would have been a better fit in Namor or Alpha Flight (or, for company crossover fun, Doom Patrol).

My first exposure was in Iron Man 15 and 16 where he didn't even get top billing over the Unicorn, who felt like a second rate villain to begin with. By then Red Ghost had a long chain and medallion dangling out of his bare chested tunic (very late 60s / early 70s), a rather loud belt and goofy hair. Plus his sidekicks were... apes. But looking at the issue just now, I admit he was more vicious and scary than I'd remembered.

I remember being confused the first time I saw the Red Ghost in a US comic because in the UK reprints his name had been changed to The Mad Ghost.

It would be interesting to see how the Sub-Mariner triumphs over this fearsome foursome. Though he would be outnumbered, Namor's experience battling another formidable quartet has me optimistic about his chances of victory.

Namor versus the Ghost and his Super Apes could produce some interesting dynamics. There is the challenge, of course, of finding a way for Namor to win outright, under the "He's the Hero" rule. Also a challenge to find ways for Kragoff and his apes to give Namor a good fight.Hmmm.....

Looking at those Tuska images from IRON MAN, I wonder who it was who decided it would be better if the Ghost's hair swept up instead of down.Not a great look! (Yes, I know it works for Wolverine, but Wolverine's hair has a lot of other things goin on.)
