Aged 65 years, Van Halen died as the cancer in his throat moved to his brain.

Anyone of my age range who loved rock music knew Van Halen as one of the great guitar players of all-time.

I saw Van Halen in 1988, just to be able to say I saw Eddie live once.  He more than delivered.

I canít imagine how my life would be different without Van Halen in my youth. Sad to see him gone.

I'm far from the world's biggest Van Halen fan, but I've listened to their first album countless times (since first picking it on CD close to 30 years ago); and I never, ever, ever tire (nor will I ever will) of hearing "Jump" on the radio... it was HUGE back in 1984, and I love it and crank the volume to this day, whenever I hear it.  Could be one of my Top 10 favorite songs of all time.

Eddie was a giant... right up there with Hendrix and Clapton, in terms of rock guitar gods.  Very sad... but blasting his music over the next few weeks is now mandatory!

RIP

I remember hearing "Running With The Devil" back in 1978. I thought it was one of the best songs I ever heard at the time.

Wow.

Musically, this adds to the misery that is 2020.

RIP

It's frustrating that the band could never put aside their squabbles and just get back to the music that they enjoyed so much - whether it was with Roth or Hagar.

I've been a huge fan since high school and saw them live a couple of times.  It's hard to process when you see your favorite musician or athlete or artist or writer passes.  You seem to lose a little of your sense of immortality with each passing.

I'm crushed!

Wore out more than one cassette while cruising around town back in my, uh, cruisin' years.
I remember their concert tee's being banned from our High School, must've been late seventies, early eighties.

Very sad.

"Eruption" alone was one of the major before-after moments in Rock guitar playing.

Saw them in 1984 with Roth, and later with Hagar, what a
tragic loss of a guitar great. R.I.P.

Van Halen (Roth era) and Prince formed my music foundation as a teenager.  The late 70s thru to 80s of my life was set to their songs.

Losing Prince and Bowie (!) in 2016 was devastating.   Losing Ed in 2020 is equally crushing.

I was a VH fan the instant I saw the album cover for Van Halen 1 in the record store in 78.  That pic of Dave bending backwards on those stacked heels on the back cover fascinated me.  As did Edís white and black striped Strat.  Who knew then how the striped graphic would become iconic, making Eddieís guitars arguably the most recognizable in music history?

I heard Running With The Devil, Jamieís Crying and (still my favorite song of all time) Ainít Talkiní Bout Love on my FM radio CONSTANTLY!  And it never got old.  And I swore there were at least 5 people playing guitar on Eruption!

What a total badass, genius, whack-a-doodle guitar tinkerer, technician, wizard, alchemist, maestro motherfucker he was!

Eddie is shredding in heaven.  Jimi, Prince, Dimebag and a host of others have illustrious company.

I loved him. Saw the band live numerous times, in all their configurations. This sucks.
