I seen that a few days ago. Two big blows for that era and my childhood with Seaver and Brock passing, Talent and personalities beyond reproach!

Cubs blew that one big time!

He was a national league guy so I rarely saw him steal all those bases though I definitely remember him and had his baseball card for sure. Not many guys retire while hitting .304 in their final season.

I have to admit that when I first started following baseball in the mid to late 70's, I didn't know much about Lou Brock other than he and his Cardinal teams always seemed to make life miserable on the diamond for my favorite team the LA Dodgers.

Flash forward a few decades and I finally took the time to read David Halberstam's book OCTOBER 1964, where he describes how Brock was traded to the Cardinals at precisely the right time, as St. Louis was getting ready to make a run for the World Series. Brock would be one of the main cogs in the great Cardinal teams of the 60's and beyond.

A terrific player, who probably will never get his due because he is viewed mostly as a base stealer, when in fact he was the whole package... Rest in peace.
