It seems a great idea. I watched the first half of the first episode and bailed. Maybe there was too much to get in to that particular one for me (although definitely could help anyone new to Starfleet concepts) so I will try a later one.

Watched episode 5, then the trailer for episode 6.
I have a great fear that this fun show is about to slide
deep into the Next Generation technobabble hole where they
have to mention something in every line of dialogue and
will never recover.

Im still operating from having seen one complete episode and a bunch of clips. This is what I have:

I like the characters.

I like the humor.

I like the way its invested itself in Trek lore without mocking.

I like the animation style.

Those who are making big, nasty negative comments from their blogswell, you have blogs so, for me, thats about 90% of your credibility gone right there.

Has anyone compared it to Red Dwarf at all? At least at the beginning, Red Dwarf was fairly novel in being focused on the two lowest ranked personnel on that ship.

I think with animation having excellent voice actors is half the key.

I think my biggest compliment is that I can easily picture most (if not all) the episodes so far as live action Star Trek episodes.  This is what I wanted from The Orville.  But Im happier because Id rather see the Star Trek world expanded upon (not altered and warped like JJ Trek or retroactively changed like Enterprise or Discovery) than anything that just pays homage.  Even if its quite respectfully.

The design of the Cerritos kinda bugs me. But Im getting used to it.   Id love to see more Federation ships on the show.
